Yes!!!! People often think I’m dwelling on the my childhood trauma if I say I’m working on stuff. I’m not even thinking about the past, I’m just dealing with the junk that’s ruining my life now.

I resonate with this a lot. Countless times I’ve been told in regard to my childhood trauma to “let it go” “it’s in the past, it shouldn’t matter anymore” or “why do you continue to revisit that stuff?” Because as an adult it surfaces as maladaptive behavior. Hard wiring. Great explanation on the reality of childhood wounds resurfacing as an adult.

As a psychotherapist of many years, I've found that for some people including myself, it is necessary to uncover and rework old wounds. To know we are feeling an old feeling we often must first excavate and retrace it ... and process at least to some extent, what wasn't processed then.
This can bring up many feelings including grief which is profoundly healing. This also brings fresh perspectives and understandings which can be deeply relieving and freeing.
This seems to be an organic process.. eventually as the presence of the past in the present is far clearer and the feelings recognized and understood there is naturally no need to go back.

This man's insight is a treasure. Interrupting him makes this video useless, tho. Cut this graphics, and just let him speak.

Off topic, but I believe this is also a great answer to anyone who questions why citizens should study their nation’s history.

This is how my counselor works too. It really bothers me sometimes. But in the long run, it's helping SO MUCH to focus on day to day functionality.

Mitigate childhood trauma by remembering it ❤️‍🔥💭 again, but through your **adult** eyes 👀

I had to remember the time when I was 5 and my surrogate mum, purposefully left me at home alone. I was terrified and kept checking all around the house 🏡 no one was there.

So I hid in my closet with a blanket covered over me 🥺 and I remembered that the adult me, held child me in my arms. And I explained to myself that being alone is what grown-ups do when we want to be free 🌞 there’s no way to be **more** free, than when you’re in Solitude. Individually, we need alone time.

No one is projecting their own unconscious thus, unprocessed childhood trauma onto you, you’re emancipated 🎉

I'm recovering from childhood and later life cult indoctrination. I didn't choose my childhood but I'm taking responsibility for my cult decision. What triggers us emotionally would be a red flag for a trained investigator that signals the next action. My signals get me emotional when I should be decisive. I'm learning and thank you for sharing your research.

Dr. Gabor Mate
I agree whole heartedly that is exactly how I feel. I find it harmful to delve into my childhood trauma and it makes matters worse. I love your philosophy and wish I could find a professional who works using that method of healing.
Thank you so much for all you do.

The main objective of a person with PTSD is to control the feelings and memories coming up, to be not overwhelmed from these memories that are too much. This avoidance strategy is a large part of the "toxic behaviour" of today.

O understands perfectly what he is saying. Even though i may not dwell on the things in the past the trauma has changed my chemical makeup. My body reacts before i have time to understand why.

That is my problem now. The person that hurt me all my life is back in my life.. causing the old wounds to resurface and making new wounds.

I love this. Obviously, I haven't let go of the past completely because it affects me today. I know what happened, and that can't change. In the here and now and understanding my behavior as a result of past trauma can help me.
