Apple has decided to abandon the 12 Inch MacBook from its laptop lineup. Why did apple decide after only four years to get rid of the super portable MacBook that was supposed to be the future of all laptops?

I bought my Space Grey 12-inch Macbook for about $2000 with the highest specs, including 16 GB of RAM. Yes, it was very expensive, but at home, it serves as my only computer, hooked up to my TV and with a keyboard and trackpad so I can sit in the sofa and use it, and when I go somewhere, I just unplug it and put it in my backpack and it will give me one full day of battery life without having to bring the charger. I love my Macbook and the only thing that would make me upgrade in the future is if Apple re-release it with an A-series processor.

I expected the 12-inch MacBook to have ARM processor. I never expected it to be discontinued.

The MacBook's purpose was to test the new keyboard and USB-C implementation to gauge reaction before rolling out to the entire product line. I can definitely see this happening again with the ARM chip.

I really do like my MacBook 12, but it was SEVERELY overpriced. Especially if it's only gonna have one port. For me it was only justifiable bc I got it for $700 like new

Nah. iPad OS and their tablet policy killed the 12" MacBook, so those people go and buy an iPad Pro.

Correction: the computer WAS powerful enough for most people but Geekbench told us otherwise. It really annoys me how much people crapped on this amazing laptop. Most of us who have it, love it.

Computers need I/O -- how does that even need explaining?
The 12" MacBook was a classic case of form over function. Good riddance, and let's instead bring back a modernized Macbook Air 11" model.

well, the most important reason is that macbook 12' has a nickname: DeadCPUBook 12'. Due to extremely bad thermal design processor package loses connection on pci-express lines. Every single macbook ' with a symptom "question mark folder" is a DeadCPUBook. In many cases it dies with absolutely no image. You re not using it wrong, its simply a bad internal design, which is well, happens really often since lead engineer left Apple in year 2012.

I actually love my 12” MacBook. I might be a rare case but I’m always traveling and I hardly notice having to carry it around. Also I’ve never had a problem with the keyboard.

This is a shame, I was considering buying one for my high school bound daughter! They hand out computers at her school, but she wanted a lighter weight one she could actually personalize. Maybe they’ll have some in the physical stores...great vid.

Tim Apple just have no vision of the future.
12inch + 14 inch low to mid level of MacBook Air line, 2 tb3 poth, 1 in each size. No Touch Bar, just touch ID

My favourite attribute of the 12” MacBook is the fact it is fan-less. It’s nice having a silent, lightweight laptop that runs MacOS. I’ll be keeping my 2015 model for as long as I can.

I love my MacBook 12", and will keep on using it. I wish they had rebranded it under the "MacBook Air" name, as the successor to the old 11.6" MacBook Air.

I will probably get the battery replaced soon — and hope that in the next 2-3 years, there's some new product replacing it as the littlest (but still full-featured) Mac laptop of them all.

The 12 in MacBook was simply overshadowed by the MacBook Air which provided better value, and the iPad Pro, especially after iPadOS was released, got powerful enough to replace the 12 in MacBook for most people who do mainly basic computing tasks anyway.
