Removing Herniated Disk (Surgery Animation)

After an accident, the plaintiff in this personal injury case received two consecutive spinal fusion surgeries. This video follows the 2nd operation where surgeons removed osteophytes, i.e., bone overgrowths, which were causing a herniated disk in the plaintiff’s spine.

Medical jargon and postoperative follow ups can be difficult concepts to understand for a juror. Spine surgeries are also arduous events for a patient to undergo and a secondary operation to address a spine injury compounds the effects.

As not every juror is a medical expert, this animation provided a clear explanation of the procedure and why it was necessary to undergo it. This civil case went to trial and the medical animation helped Wilshire Law Firm’s attorney, Jon Teller, secure a $2.15 million verdict for his client.

I've been through this surgery and i tell you it is not for the faint hearted. If your pains are mild don't go for it. One nut got dispaced thus bringing alot of pain at the back which was unbearable! I've just underwent a repeat of the surgery, luckily they reduced some screws now am feeling lighter and better with less pain.

I’m 32, also having this operation this coming Thursday. Looking forward to it. I’ve heard it is almost instant pain relief.

I want you to hear my experience. Sorry, I am writing to you via Google Translator. I have been suffering from herniated disc for a year. I could not move. I am 30. I had minimally invasive surgery 15 days ago. I don't even have a trace of pain. Half an hour after surgery, I was able to walk normally without pain, so don't hesitate, not a single second. I hope all heal up

Currently have herniated L4/L5 effacing the Thecal Sac

The title is misleading. Most disc herniation surgeries are NOT spinal fusions, which is shown on the video. Most surgeries are microdiscectomies, which are much less invasive.

How bad does your back have to be to get this surgery? I'm 18 and I have 3 herniated discs (L2-L5), arthitis, and osteoporosis in my lower back. My back constantly hurts and gets tight. I can't stand for more than 3 hours and I can't even lift anything.

Horrible pain for 20 years. Last year to the extent that i need Buprenorfin, triptyl and Gabapentin to even walk shorter distances. Just had Mri and it shows severe pressure on nerves around L4-L5.. hopefully i will qualify for surgery now. I can't afford it to pay privately on a small disability income here in Finland. I hurt my back working as a nurse in 2004.
