A detailed video of the two used oil filters I had off hand to compare as an analysis:
It's not a direct comparison of quality concerning what's there and what's not, just how it's constructed.
Fram Extra Guard PH3593A
Valvoline (Mae by Purolator) V0-16

The FRAM was from the late 90's or early 2000's. The Valvoline was from within the past year or so.
Although the FRAM had cardboard end caps, they showed no sign of coming apart, even after the extended use that it had in a diesel engine. The Valvoline had metal end caps, but no pressure release valve, possibly because it was designed for my engine that has an adapter with one built in. I'm impressed with both filters because of what I've seen about them on other Youtube videos. None had any signs of failure, or performing any differently than they should.

Both had rubber Anti-Drainback valves
Both had a nice filter element with nice pleats
The Valvoline had metal and caps, and the Fram had cardboard/paper end caps
The Valvoline had no pressure release(Not needed), and the Fram did
Both had thick enough containers/canisters

I assumed it went through the filter media on the Valvoline. Not sure if that's the best test for the valve, as I didn't see which port the oil came out of, but good point. I'll probably have another Purolator/Valvoline filter to take apart in the spring.

Oh because it stuck? That was weird. Valvoline is made by Purolator. This is their economy type of filter, it costs around $3.99. If I used Purolator, it would be the Pure one series.

I have a new old stock Valvoline VO 44 with a 1989 Copyright date on the box ..It has been in dry storage and still can be used..

Yeah, I've always heard that pureone filters the best, and I could see why they wouldn't want you to go longer on them. I guess on newer engines that burn cleaner and produce less carbon could go longer than 3k, but older 90's engines would clog it up past 3k.

One thing I'm anal about is the bypass valve. I favor the Motorcraft design where it's at the base of the filter, not the end. I honestly don't think it makes any difference if the center tube is spiral or not. Even if the pleats are grouped tight in one spot and wide in the other. At 30-50 psi every surface filters the oil.

Just curious to know if both of these filters were used with valvoline oil?

the pureone is a good filter, , but dont try extended drain interval with it, , , purolator says not to exceed 3k miles usong them, , , i suppose because it filters so well.

Failed as in how? This video doesn't clearly show the rubber edge and the ring on the cap until it's off.

failed because the anti drainback valve didnt work for it allowed all of the oil to drain right out, its the reason why the Fram was so heavy, its anti drainback valve worked.

Back then fram filters were a little better

Fram has more money which means more RD

this shows that the Valvoline filter's drain back valve sucks.
