There are multiple high quality oil filters such as Napa gold, wix xp, bosch, & others but each 1 can fit different needs. What is best for you and why? This could help others people in the NIA community who are just starting to research.

It's always amazed me that people don't have an issue paying $20K to $60K for their brand new shiny ride..but they want to pay the least amount possible for their oil changes... cheap oil, cheapest the oil change quickie

I appreciate all your work checking out oil filters by cutting them open and explaining the pro and con of nitrile rubber versus silicone and cellulose media versus synthetic media. However, it really comes down to effective filtration (ISO 4548-12 - Filtration Efficiency Using Particle Counting, and Contaminant Retention Capacity) and flow especially if you are going 7, 5000 / 10, 000 / 15, 000-mile oil change interval. Most but not all oil filter manufacturers include a micron rating concerning filter performance / efficiency

Why does everyone just cut open the filters and look at them rather than actually test them to know how well they filter? How it looks doesn't necessarily have any bearing on it's filtering effectiveness, which is what really matters.

From my experience I only choose either purolator 1 & Bosch Premium.

Liked the fact that the video was short and you gave your observed opinion on best and worst

I've almost always used Mobil1 filters for my high end vehicles. I did know about Wix/Napa brands and the quality but what surprised me was the Walmart ST filter. And Bosch is just not really readily available across a broad spectrum of vehicles. But Fram filters take up HUGE space at the big box I order mine online delivered to the house.

Purolator and Wix filters are good aftermarket filters for standard oil change intervals. OEM brands make good filters too such as Honda and Nissan. Honestly I’m not too interested in what the filters look like before they are used. What I always use as a gauge is running whatever mileage interval I plan to use, and then inspecting the filter after the fact as well as sending the oil samples off to Blackstone and getting a report back on the particulate that is in the actual oil sample.

For my Hemi 5.7 people out there. I use Ultra Penzoil Platinum paired with a Royal Purple oil filter for my 2018 Dodge Durango RT with 34k miles. I'll change out the oil when it reaches 30-40%. For my higher mileage daily trucks, ill use a Mobil 1 oil filter and just started using Castrol 5w40. One truck is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 V8 and the other is a 2002 Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3. So far no issues with the oil. Never had an issue with Mobil filters and have always changed my oil out at around 3-4k miles on these trucks.

I've watched a couple of your reviews and decided they weren't worth my time... "You've got to see this!" "I was STUNNED." "You need to cut open..." WHY? I don't know what's going through your head. Do you believe metal check valves or spring check valves perform better than a plastic valve? Do you have any proof of that? Am I supposed to believe more holes make for better performance? Does it make any difference if the paper creases are uniformly spaced? Is it the length of the filter element, or the total surface area? All I hear is "Look at this!".

You play up steel but you don't make the connection that a uncoated steel component will surface rust sitting on the shelf in a store! Depends on how many years it sat there, and the moisture in the store. So the rubber gasket is easier to remove on some models... NOT a big issue. Anyone installing the filters should know if a gasket is missing, or the old one is still stuck to the engine... Who caused the scratches that you displayed on one of your videos? Was it the manufacturer, or a customer who returned the filter? And how is a scratch on the inside of a filter flooded with oil going to rust? And what about the contamination? You show a "puddle of oil" in one filter. Do you think it was assembled that way in the factory? I doubt they had any oil within 100 feet of the assembly line. Why would they? More likely than that, a customer bought the filter, screwed it on his oily engine, decided he didn't like it, returned it to the store, and they put it back on the shelf for you to buy... And the discoloration of the end of the filter element? Again... How do you know this wasn't a customer return? Disintegrated cardboard? Could it be that a customer bought the filter, used it, and then cleaned it with gasoline or solvent so he could return it?

Finally, you're picking up components left and right, while talking about a different brand whose components are still sitting on the table. Why don't you show us the components one brand at a time?

It seems that some filters are better at this and others are better at that. Is it possible that one filter is best at everything? That doesn’t appear to be the case. One thing I have noticed is that your filter selection is kind of like Armour Hot Dogs (Fat ones, skinny ones, even filters with chicken pox). I think it would be a good idea to compare all of the filters for the same application. I have seen instances (not necessarily oil filters) where a manufacturer might spec out different quality components for similar parts with different applications. In other words, a Wix (random selection) Ford Triton V8 filter could be built differently than a Toyota V8 filter or even a Ford 4 cylinder filter. I am not saying that this is the case, but it is certainly a possibility. As far as a tiny bit of light rust in a filter from storage, I’m pretty sure that once in use, the filter media will filter that out. The real question should be is it a real problem or a perceived problem? Good work!

This would have been a really good video if it wasn't for that constant focus in & out. And the wix on the left got partially cut out of the video. Whereas you have the fram and supertech center stage. The wix xp have been hard for me to find lately at a fair price.

I opened the box of the Fram Ultra at Walmart 2 days ago and saw rust on the base plate. I thought rust was no big deal but it was too much rust to be no big deal.

I'll stick with Toyota OEM filters, especially at the cost of $5 per filter.
