5.2 earthquake hits SoCal, shaking sends boulder crashing down on 5 Freeway

More small aftershocks continued to hit Kern County the morning after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake near Bakersfield. The strong shaking sent a large boulder tumbling down onto the 5 Freeway at Grapevine Road.

The 1952 event was called the Tehachapi quake, and I actually remember it, although I was only a couple years old. It was before dawn when it happened, we were living in a place near the Memorial Coliseum, and I remember everyone running around the apartment as I sat on the floor in my sleepers - I don't recall being afraid, but I remember everyone around me being excited by it.

My earthquake app gave me almost 15 seconds notice before my house started shaking! I was about 60 miles away. That's enough time to actually move to a safer location. Pretty cool
