I was torn on the whole insurance thing. I bought a new bike a few months ago and I was planning on only getting the bare minimum liability insurance as in my state you have to have at least that. Well the day came when I got my new bike and the night before I asked a buddy of mine that lives and breathes bikes what his opinion was on the level of coverage I should get. He recommended I get full coverage if I can swing it especially because it was going to be my daily driver on top of a few other good points he brought up.
When I got my insurance quote I let him know what they wanted and we went over the pros and cons of full coverage and liability for me in MY situation. I ultimately decided to go with full coverage after almost everyone I asked told me to just get basic liability and insurance was not worth it in most cases for motorcycles.
Yesterday an uninsured driver pulled out in front of me and I got in a pretty bad wreck. I was heading north bound, she was heading southbound. She went to turn left, crossing the northbound lanes. A car that was riding beside me to my left about a car length ahead slammed their breaks narrowly avoiding her. She ended up in the middle of the road blocking the middle and the left northbound lane and the other car was blocking the left lane as well leaving only the right lane open. This is all happened very quick and I made the split second decision to swerve into the right lane to avoid her and as I’m about to narrowly avoid their “almost” collision she wasn’t paying attention to anyone else potentially coming and pulled forward to finish her turn, and in consequence blocked off my only escape route avoiding her. So I had the car that almost hit her in the left lane and she was in the left and middle now pulling into the right and I hit her dead center on the passenger side. It was a big SUV so I didn’t fly over the car on impact. i was on a sport bike so leaned forward a bit, my helmet shattered the window and my body left a huge dent in the side of her door. Hit so hard he rear view mirror, door handle, and glass were all in the street.
Long story short I am so glad I had full coverage. The bike I worked so hard for is definitely totaled. This happened yesterday evening. Just got out of the hospital earlier today and made it out with just a broken hand and a sprained shoulder. I have to go back to the hospital because I tend to undermine my injuries and didn’t tell them my balls were hurting and after I got out of the hospital I noticed my left one is black and blue and swollen from wracking on my triple tree I assume. EMTs and police were really shocked I was up and trying to handle everything after the impact I just took. I shouldn’t of walked away that easy… I’m so lucky. Sorry for rambling I’m still processing everything but I am so glad I had good coverage. My insurance is coming to pick up my bike tomorrow and I have a rep helping me through the whole process.
I understand why people don’t get full coverage, but in this case im so glad I did. I recommend thoroughly looking at pros and cons of coverages so you can be educated on all of your options and choose what is best for you at that moment. Everyone please be safe, it is so dangerous these days, nobody pays attention. Always keep your head on a swivel and stay safe guys

Man that $1100 per year is still a dream to me. Im trying to get a zx6r in ontario and the lowest quote i got so far is 9400 a year. For a CBR650r lowest i found was 3400 a year. It doesnt even make sense for me to LOOK at a liter bike as a second bike

Edit: I'm not a kid either. I'm 29 :')

I appreciate your content brother. Even if nearly none of it applies here in Australia. Keep it up man. Short content might be the best way forward my man. Much love.

If you ride like an MSF instructor and pull over you want/need insurance. If you ride like a squid and don’t pull over you also probably want insurance unless you’ve got new bike money. Basically you want insurance unless your rich.

Florida's minimum requirement is no insurance, just wear a helmet (if I remember right). If you have insurance, you can ride with no helmet (highly go against it).

And insurance coverage is one of the higgest reasons I got a slow, small cc bike to learn on, 300 a year for full coverage at $100 deductible 😁

Just found your channel the other day, saw this video, and wanted to add to this. If the bike is parked, I can agree that partial/liability only coverage is enough. If the bike is being used consistently, a minimum add on is your personal injury coverage. You want to at least (very minimum!!!) add enough to cover your deductible on your medical insurance. If you don’t, you can end up on the hook for some extreme medical bills if you end up going down. Much love, shiny side up!!

UK insurance companies are robbers in law, 5k insurance price can't be explained with all this schedule, they are simply robbers. Most expensive insurance prices in the world are in United kingdom.

Insurance is the #1 reason I got rid of my CBR 1000 RR. In PA you can put it into a "seasonal" registration so you can drop the insurance but it was such a hassle. I pay less for my WR250R and MT07 for a full year then I did for the CBR in half a year.

In California if you have your motorcycle endorsement/license for 5 years, you can ask your car insurance to add your moto and it is cheaper. It was like $10-14 a month full cover (deductible $500). of course liability is $5-10 might as well go full cover. I called progressive/ geico and way more expensive.
I thought to mention this because somehow not all moto riders know this. Hell one of my friends who does several track days a year doesn't know this. They have separate insurance for their motorcycles which cause them like an avg. $80-100/mo full cover and this is the cheap range it can only go higher from here.

I'm 53 with no tickets or accidents and I pay a little under $100 a month for full coverage on my 2020 Tuono in California. Sucks...but oh, well. First online quote I got before purchasing it was $5k 😂.

I only put Shell in my Tuono...lower quality gas makes mine hesitate for a second off the line....so, only Slell now.

I have a 400hp sports car that I pay $100 a month for (no idea why it's so expensive with good credit, no accidents, no tickets, and am 38). If I get a zx6r, it'll be $2500 a year. That's insanity.

It's all about negotiating I'm 23 with a clean licence in california and I pay $65 a month for full coverage in california. And that's on my 17 tuono v4 rr. I need coverage year round so I'm glad I shopped around for my rate.

I live in india and I need to pay 100 dollars per year for my 125 scooter and for a 150cc sports bike its 150 dollars. Here speeds are pretty low so small displacement bikes are favourable
