Do NOT Buy a Ryzen 9 7950x3D

The Ryzen 9 7950X3D supposedly is the best CPU from the AM5 lineup to date, however the 7950X or the 7800X3D might actually be a better buying choice, depending on your needs!

core parking issue has been fixed, just configure your pc as it should be, install properly drivers and everything will be ok.

I picked up a used 7950x3d for $380. I couldn't resist. It's a great cpu. It was an upgrade from my 5800X3d. I didn't need to use special setting or tools. Windows recognizes CCD with 3d vcache. I have never ran into any issues with programs choosing the wrong ccd

I got the CPU around 2 weeks ago and my experience has been completely contradictory to the claims made in this video.

I'm not even using Process Lasso. No shade to the people who do, I understand it's fairly popular to use with this CPU. But before I messed with any of that I wanted to test this the way AMD intended for it to be used. So I didn't change them other board setting to have it favor the frequency cores, the only thing I did was install the AMD motherboard drivers and make sure that my game bar was up to date. It also turns out that you have to use the balanced power setting.

Of all of the games I tested on it, one failed to correctly run on the cache cores. That may have been a glitch because I haven't seen that happen again.

So in my experience everything said in this video is wrong. And I don't know what to make of that. It sounds like when this chip was first released there were some problems with the drivers that potentially cause problems. But this video was not made at the time of release of this chip. It was made one month ago.

Reading various forums about this chip, it does seem that some people have had problems getting it to run properly. I don't really know what's going on there, I wonder if they might not be choosing the correct power plan. Or maybe it's possible that the AMD drivers aren't always installing correctly. But my system was far from an ideal, this wasn't even a fresh install, I put an old installed Windows that had previously been running an AM4 system into this system.

If you want to say that some people are having problems, fine. But to say that the chip simply doesn't work right and that games absolutely do not allocate correctly to the proper course, that's simply false. I went into this expecting that it may take more work to run it effectively, but so far it has been largely trouble-free.

No issues with my 7950X3D, core parking is working perfectly when I run games and process lasso wasn't even needed. (I thought mine wasn't working initially by mistakenly thinking I should be seeing cores being parked/sleep state in task manager on Windows 11 but it won't always show this there however Resource Monitor expanding the processors on that will show. Run a game in windowed mode and have Resource Monitor open on the side where you can see the processor states to see them go to sleep in Resource Monitor, minimizing the game or losing focus on the game will instantly result in that being undone which makes it tricky to check if its working or not unless you know all these things before hand when testing.

Freaking love my 7950x3d all i did was enable expo put -15 all core in curve optimzer and it crushed every Benchmark I threw at it until Prime 95 I got 7 hours in and then worker 8 failed, so I went in and dropped core 8 to -10 in curve optimzer then ran them all again and did several 16 hour runs on prime 95 and it passed every single time no errors. Not to mention they seem to have fixed all the scheduling problems but I'm a micromanager anyway and already had a subscription of process lasso from before i switched from intel (because my 13900k had to be rmad and intel lost my trust) I use it just because i like the control. But i freaking love this chip.

I heard that this Is not click bait but still...did you ever try the CPU itself? or is just a hit a run situation? don't know about this video very misleading, oh btw talking from a 7950X3D with a beefy X670-E MoBo :x

if you wanna fix the core parking issue either reinstall windows (which amd recommend you do) or use process lasso.

Process lasso or Linux with KVM and cpu pinning, no issues for me :)

I had no issues with core parking even at launch with process lasso.

Yes, dual CCD x3d is not great. Only buy a 16 core x3d when 16 cores are on a single ccd - a 32 core x3d with single ccd x3d would have the same interconnect issues

I built my 7950X3D/7900 XTX about a month ago. I admit I took almost this entire time to get it working properly (was rebooting randomly when doing light tasks with seemingly no reason, the issue was apparently too low RAM voltage at the rated EXPO frequency. I thought either the CPU or RAM was broken and was almost at the point of returning one of them).

Now that it's working as intended, I really can't complain. It crushes every game I throw at it with ease, on top of also being able to use Affinity Photo/Davinci Resolve like never before (had a Ryzen 3600 before this).

I paid around ¥85000 new (living in Japan atm) for it, and I don't regret it (at least not anymore haha).

Though yes, I would absolutely not recommend this chip to the average person who simply wants a fast computer. It's an enthusiast-grade chip only for people who want to tweak a lot to get the best out of it.

I have a 7950X3D and I dont adjust any settings and it runs very well in all games on 4K ( 3840x2160) with my 4070Ti and 2x32GB 6000Mhz CL30 RAM. Disable SMT in BİOS and youl will see real performans of 3D V-Cache. Using SMT with a 7950X3D is stupidity. Performance cores are enough all games and programs and productivity

Hello, im having an issue with my new build 7950x3d. While playing games (mostly cs2) its impossible to play due to stuttering. I ran an afterburner benchmark. All the 3d cores are working properly. The non 3d cores are at 0% usage except for one. The cpu32 is stuck at 100% usage resulting in very high frame rate time. Its very weird i tried everything nothing is fixing the issue. I have clean install windows 11 and even tried on windows10, updated chipsets updated bios, updates gpu drivers.
PC SPECS:
Rtx3080
Asus x670e e
Corsair DDR5 6000mhz cl30
NZXT 360 elite aio
Corsair 1000x psu
If someone can give their opinion/fix it would be great

Oh and i also tried disabling the non 3d cores in ryzen master (game mode) the 100% cpu load switched from the 32nd to the 16th core .

- Play a game.
- Window+ G to open Xbox game bar
- setting and check ✅ "remember this is a game"

Cores are parked everytime you play that game.. All my game i play are parked only the v-cache is active.

Problem solved.

If you think there are people who find process lasso a difficult app to use then they would probably only be able to use the PC for basic browsing and office tasks. These people would be content with a Ryzen 3 zen2 system that costs like $300 altogether or something similar. Why would they ever consider a 7950x or 7800x3d

karael

i agree i noticed the same on my 7900x3d but i don't want to spend additional time on tuning actually the cpu works fine and it's ok but turning back i prefernto buy the 7800x3d

My guy is dumb...

Update windows, manually install the AMD chipset drivers, ENABLE GAME MODE, use the CMD command to FORCE idle tasks such as updating game bar, enable game bar, enable hardware scheduling

CORE PARKING!! IS REQUIRED!! and it takes a few minutes to enable it its not enabled bu default you can blame windows for that

The 7950X3D on a properly setup system is +/- 1% of that of a 7800X3D in gaming
