People that are buying cheaper components are not gonna be regretting being on DDR4. Most people can’t tell the difference unless it upgrades their resolution. Speed is for enthusiasts and professionals.

Most people will not regret being on am4 in a year or two, because most people don't upgrade their PC every year in every new generation of CPU and GPU. It's only enthusiasts and people who have a crap ton of cash who upgrade every year, the average user will only upgrade after 5 to 7 years, at wich point even am5 will be a dead socket

gamers nowdays are like, "waaaah, my (not even 5yo, already expensive and perfectly serviceable and sufficient gpu) gpu is too old! i must sell my remaining kidney to buy new gpu with 30% increased performance!"
i am 100% sure that ddr4 will still be good enough for 10 more years.

I'm glad I went for AM4 with a Ryzen 5 5600. The cheapest AM5 system is almost double the price of the system I got where I live due to the 7500F, motherboard, and DDR5 RAM being almost double the price. So it might not be worth it because of my strict budget. Especially when I would've had to sacrifice a GPU upgrade if I went with AM5. Plus I'll probably upgrade to a new platform in 3-4 years anyway.

Got the 5800x3d recently and its the last cpu i will have on AM4. I might as well go out with a bang with the best AM4 gaming cpu! AM4 has treated me very well since 2020! ❤

It's a bit too fear-mongery to say, "am4 will be irrelevant in 2 years", when people stick rock 1080tis and 570s. Am4 will stay around for another 5 years easy, especially at 1080p

AM5 is still too expensive and AM4 still have some solid upgrade and for sure the higher end cpus on AM4 will be more affordable in years to come which is more than plenty for future gpus

I'd recommend AM4 if you are on a budget and find a good deal. I have DDR5, and I built more DDR4 than DDR5 PCs this year with this advice.

Do people really upgrade their PC THAT often? I got my first PC in 2016 and I didn't build a brand new one till 2023. That PC had a 1050ti and i7 6700, lasted me the whole 7 years I had the computer and I had little issues. I only felt the need to upgrade because GPU prices had settled down finally so I wanted to bite at the chance. IMO, AM5 is only worth it if you have the budget. I highly doubt the average user upgraders their CPU every 2 years.

I gotta disagree as I helped 2 friends build new AM4 systems for Xmas and with the cheap price of good B550 boards and DDR4 they were able to build really nice 1080p gaming PCs for under $500 which they just could not do on AM5.

Fun fact:
2 out of 3 GPU companies also are CPU companies (AMD and Intel).
The only GPU company that doesn't make CPUs is Nvidia.
This means that Nvidia will eventually start making CPUs kinda like Intel started making GPUs.

An am5 motherboard that has what I need on it, it's double the price of a similar am4. I bought an R7 5800x3D and a 2023 7000 series Radeon GPU. This should be good for 5 years at least.
