This is the most powerful argument against HOA I've ever heard.

The only good thing about my current residence.. is it's NEXT to an HOA, but predates the HOA, and isn't part of their shenanigans. The HOA sadly knows this, and thus has resorted to whining at the city-of to try and bully us instead.

And I think about that every Halloween, when the husband sets up his little haunted house, aims the speakers at the current HOA head's house, and blasts it. Knowing we filed the proper paperwork for the disturbance. It's the simple things in life you treasure.

My favorite description is “the HOA president is the person who ran for mayor and lost, and the members are people who ran for city council and lost”

HOA is such an alien concept to me, imagine a random dude telling you what you can and cannot do with YOUR OWN house

You know things are bad when one of the selling points you see on a home ad is "No HOA" that tells you all you need to about living in them.

As a guy with an econ degree, there's fair amount of data that shows that the deterrance of prospective buyers that HOAs have actually reduces your property value to a degree because nobody wants to buy a house in an HOA.

Key point "I don't intend to sell". Homes are homes they shouldn't be an investment to make you rich it should be an investment so your family has a place to call home for as long as the family exists

The HOA is the reason I can't paint my house pastel purple and plant native plants and instead have to have exotic grass that needs more upkeep than a child.
