How Many Times A Week Should You Run? (Is Running Everyday OK?)

Getting the balance right about running your running is important. You do not want to do too much or too little. Is there a sweet spot when it comes to running? How many days a week should you run? Is it okay to run seven days a week? So how do you determine what is the correct amount of running days and sessions for you? Lindsey Parry breaks that down in this video.

in my opinion taking rest days seriously is way harder than working out every day until having an injury. It could be so easy - just listen to your body. You won't die from a "to easy session" or a "too slow progress" since most of us are not professional runners. But you definetly will regret pushing to hard, when having an injury because of it.

I run everyday. The routine makes it easier to stay motivated and I enjoy the daily endorphins. 4 miles at 9 minute mile pace is the sweet spot to avoid injury.

I can't stop, I've tried to have a day off. My mental health suffers.

This was really helpful! As someone who has had an overuse injury in the past (not stretching didn't help!) I have come to understand the value in Not Running Every Day!! Especially since I have always done my running not for the sake of running itself--but as a necessary part (cardio.) of my two main sports: tennis, and (especially) curling. And as I am getting older as well...I am now basically planning in a week: 3 runs (either 30 mins. timed, or 5K) interspersed with 2 interval runs (Walk 5 Run 2:00 Walk 1:00 X 7) and 2 speedwalks (usually on the days I do strength training). This allows to me to keep cardio. up for my aforementioned sports, while at the same time preserving the health of my knees...

I'm aiming for a sub 3 sometime in my life and currently did a 1:44:30 HM. I used to do the 1500/3000 back in high school and then some road runs in college and now I'm training for HM/10km while looking to do my 1st marathon maybe in 2027. Across all my time spent running (which is pretty intense and usually for months on end), I've always stuck to a 5 day running plan. It works myself to get some good time to use, doesn't totally exhaust and rob all my time and also prevents injury. When I start marathon training someday for sub 3 I guess I'll have to break it but I recommend anyone who's targeting any goals and aren't too experienced to not do more than 5 days a week

I've been mainly focusing on distributing my load and have had some very good exercise doing this, thank you Coach Parry

I ran every day and got a hip stress fracture that didn’t heal properly and needed surgery after 8 months. I learned my lesson. 32 year old female.

Interesting post👍...I find that I like to be out of the house for an hour or so everyday either running or walking in my local hills, I mix it up with 3/4 MAF zone runs and the rest brisk walking, so far I have not experienced any of the symptoms you mention with over training, I think running everyday would be to much for me....

It takes a lot of time and dedication, but when you get to the level of running 5-7 days a week
the mental and physical benefits reach their peak effect.

Some watches provide information about how long you should rest after exercise.
I think those are good recommendations.

This video came when I am trying to run everyday since 10 days and I am developing left knee pain even at rest, inspite of religiously doing warmup, Post run Stretches and foam rolling and strengthening. Thank you Coach and team

Practical question and direct advice.

I watch a few different videos and this one is the best for the question.

Great advice, I have dropped a couple of runs a week in order to do strengthening and mobility work as I have been prone to injury. It has been working for at least

Brad, instead of "Welcome ONTO..." it may be "Welcome to". I could be wrong, but I feel that the "on" doesn't fit.

On a similar subject, I'd love to see the coach's response to how many kilometers one should run (and can run) per week? And on that topic, if its ok to build up to a certain weekly mileage (eg: 100km or 160km) and stay there (with the odd down week every 3rd or 4th week)?
