It's funny how 40 years later people realize that Mike Mentzer actually knew what he was talking about. Dude will be revered in history as the father of intensity.

I like this guys philosophy. Haven’t seen a bad piece of advice yet

What I like about training principles like Mike Mentzer's hight intensity training is how it taught me to focus on hitting the stimulus and then allowing my body the oripee time to recover. Going to the gym 12 times per week was overkill and was nowhere near enough time for my body to actually recover and grow.

Intensity is key, and nutrition is absolute, and rest is the growth process. This is the winning strategy no if's, and's or buts, PERIOD!

I train at such a high intensity that I need 2-3 days off. Especially my central nervous system.

Train like hell for 3 days a week 2 days off in between workouts,
eat adequate protein rich diet and sleep 7-8 hours a day. Gains will be yours.

Train hard enough to force an adaptation and let your recovery dictate the rest days 💪

I train 3X a week. Given a busy job, a young child to raise and spend time with, this works for me. I am the typical gym goer who will never compete on stage, will never take drugs because my job doesn't depend on my physique. Eventually all methods get you to 80% plus of your natural capacity. For me that's been 6 years I'd say. I still make progress in the gym. However, staying injury free is priority now. I still enjoy doing very high intensity stuff like the 20 rep breathing squat, aka the widow maker. Nothing gives more satisfaction than doing the true widowmaker set. For most of the other exercise, I like to go to top set for failure. But I like to do drop sets / rest pause to go beyond failure. So I guess that adds volume also.

Depends on your age and whether your a new lifter or seasoned lifter, I just started lifting at the age of 59 if I trained more than 2 times a week I would never properly heal before the next workout!!!

I knew this already. But the way he said it helped me understand it.

I used to train 5-6 times per week for 2-3 hours a day and I made only a little progress. When I switched to 2-4 times per week my results skyrocketed. Every time I go to the gym I have the energy to train like a beast. When I was training 5-6 times per week I was always tired and I couldn't train intensively enough.

If I don't sweat through my shirt and shorts, then I know I didn't train hard enough. I agree with his mindset. I push myself everytime in the gym. I've only been exercising consistently for about 2 months, but already have noticed a difference. I'm down 17 pounds and have put on muscle. And out lifting most of the people in my gym. It's intensity and consistency that works.

If I go to the gym 2 days after I workout my workout is always terrible, I'm winded, I'm doing 10-20lbs less than usual. If I wait 4-5 days tho im always doing higher reps, number and feel amazing so I always take 3-4 days off between workouts

It’s coming to the point that I lift weights more and more often due to sheer boredom. Third day in a row already. I know it’s not good to overdue it but damn.
