As part of our continuing series Work in Progress, we're looking at workplace rudeness. An estimated 98% of employees deal with difficult people at work. New research from Harvard Business Review shows victims of rudeness are the ones being blamed. LinkedIn editor-in-chief Dan Roth joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss the impact of rude behavior at work and why the victims are often the ones who are blamed.

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, four News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Anytime you speak up a ♉ eye is placed on your back. These managers don't care about their employees. When a person quits, they will just replace. Sad!

The boss who ignores this is just going to have to pay more in high turnover because his favoritism to the bully or the rude employee is eventually going to turn a whole lot of good employees off. People don’t leave bad jobs, they leave bad bosses.

Managers have no idea how to treat people. They forgot where they started. It's more of a power thing to them. They love to call you out and see you suffer.

These people making excuses for it… “We’re stressed out!” Too bad! Grow up. You shouldn’t be stressing other because you’re stressed.

Victims are being blamed because managers don't like "drama." From experience!

I've had to deal with this a bunch, and even though I am genuinely working on not being so "sensitive" as I've been told, I do appreciate that people are taking workplace rudeness seriously, as well as its effect on general productivity.

I have never ran to the boss when someone was rude to me but the bullies run to the boss anytime I try to stand my ground.

Sometimes I feel reporting rudeness to a manager would cause more issues than fix things overall, it depends on the level of the rudeness and why. Also, confronting rudeness is hard, especially when the worker is already stressed out.

It’s the gaslighting they do once you speak up. I just decided to stay to myself and treat all of them the same. I’m taking notes just in case I have to sue them.

What happens if the rudeness comes from management and senior management?

Most of it stems of coworker insecurity.

I've often wondered why colleges don't teach some kind of office conflict resolution especially since it's such a prevalent problem

I wouldn’t know what to do if I had a job that didn’t bring me to tears in the bathroom once a week. Toxic toxic people but I don’t have much faith it’ll change and I can tell my performance is suffering

Bullies usually come from older employees and/or management. I stop reporting to management cause they the one who’s feeding them. They won’t do nothing about that cause they wanna protect their positions.you gotta deal with it or find yourself something else 😢

Maybe it’s just me but I find it easy to NOT BE rude. Meanwhile I notice some coworkers don’t even notice they’re being rude AND overbearing. It really does mess with your performance. The helicopter coworkers literally make my blood boil.

It really is a vicious no win cycle.

If you speak up you are now the problem. People advise you to leave but there are bullies in every workplace. So now what?

What is a hard working, conflict averse person supposed to do when they just want to survive and can’t stand up for themselves properly?

Is not responding to my good morning rude? I can't help but feel upset when my coworkers ignore my good mornings but say it back to certain staff members.
