Active Recovery to Relieve Muscle Soreness Fast | Low Impact Walk growwithjo

Recovery is so important! It is often overlooked because its sometimes challenging when you are on a roll to take a day off. But that is when the muscle growth happens and when your body is able to catch up to all the hard work that you put in.

Did you know that if you're not recovering properly, you may not be able to see the results that you want to see? While you exercise, muscle is being broken down and gets tiny tears in them. Its in the recovery that it is being built back up and your body is making it easier for you to make progress.

So next time you are questioning whether you should take a rest day, the fact that you are questioning it may mean that its time!

Todays routine is for those days where you want to rest but you also feel the need to move your body, get the blood flowing, and stretch out the soreness.

A couple other ideas to help reduce soreness:
Epsom salt bath - this is great even to help your muscles relax so that you can sleep better at night

Contrast shower - taking the last 5 minutes of your shower to alternate between hot and cold (concentrating the shower head on the area of your body that is most sore) - this helps bring more blood flow to the region and helps flush out the soreness.

Drink more water - this one is the most underrated but your muscles and body need lots of water to recover and bounce back. Drink lots of water when you start to feel soreness coming on

Increase your protein - when you increase your dietary protein, this provides your muscles with the fuel they need to build back up!

Sleep - do your best to get 6-8 hours of sleep at night for proper recovery and ultimate release of growth hormone! This will help you recover, help your muscles grow, and help your metabolism!

78 year old, loving your routines. arms, abs and cool down with more as I progressL. love you Jo, so cheerful and at least useful exercise which makes me sweat while I enjoy showing results already, . off for a cold drink and shower.

This is EXACTLY what I needed today! I’ve committed to working out 5 days a week. Today was every bit of hump day for me. I went to Costco and you know how heavy that stuff can get. Carried all that stuff in, later took a nap. Promising myself I was going to do some kind of moving before I went to bed for the night. Cut to me waking up and being really sore, I mean really. But I still wanted to do SOMETHING. Scrolling through all Jo’s videos, I found this gem. Everything from the calming movements, to the music (👌🏾), to the lighting and lastly the cutest pup ever hanging out and standing up?!😂 Vibes? Immaculate. I don’t know if you consider this video a workout but I’m so grateful for it. I have endometriosis and it’s hard for me to workout right before my period starts and while I’m on it and this has helped soooo much with working up a small sweat and being active! I normally never comment but I appreciate your content so much Jo!

My biggest step towards practicing recovery is to drink plenty of water! I also like to add bedtime yoga routines before bed to help stretch out those sore muscles. I loved the morning mobility video from this week. I can't wait to see this one! I will probably add it to my weekly workouts.

Thank you so much Jo! I deal with brutal PMS fatigue, so this is the perfect amount of effort for the week I need a boost the most and this way I don't lose my progress from my more intense workout weeks. would love to see more videos like this and gentle options for moon time!!

Two days ago I fell off the stairs (luckily all good, only have a big bruise on my 🍑 which didn't let me walk as good as before) and I took these days to rest. Today I told me "i'll try to do a low impact workout and I already know which one I am going to do". This one!
