I know a lot of people think that kindle vs iPad is a weird comparison but this helps me so much! I’ve been wanting to get a kindle PW since I’ve gotten back into reading but I constantly use my IPad mini to read my Kindle books but also my Apple Books and also use reading apps to track what I’ve read and my reviews! Of course the blue screen isn’t so comfortable and neither is the size which is exactly why I’d like to get a PW but (even in these comments) I see others complain about the lagging while bringing up a book or turning a page which seems kind of useless when your being engaged in a book. So in the mean time till they are able to clearly fix the PW I’ll just stick to my mini for now :)

I use my iPad mini 6 as an e-reader for my textbooks and readings in school. For me it is perfect size and there’s features that kindle cannot do such as using a stylus to markup my notes, write math equations, and draw graphs in my textbooks.

I have both. I use my kindle for all my reading and the iPad mini for watching videos, movies, play games and many other tasks. Cheers!

After watching this video, I can confidently say that this man read very little, or not at all on ereaders or tablets. None of the book readers would ever compare an eReader and a tablet, then choose the tablet because it can do more things, so hilarious.

For the longest time, I used ipads and didn't see the need to switch to kindle. Hence when I did switch, I never looked back. The reading experience is superior on an ereader.

1 major pro of Kindle wins over all its cons.. Its simply better for your eyehealth compared to all others tablet.
Its for those who care about their eye.

I have both, the ipad mini is better for books that have graphs pics etc, but I'm an avid reader and the extra weight of the ipad does annoy after an hour of reading. My dream is amazon release a purpose colour reader, but I doubt they will, they have a nice 'almost' monopoly on reading devices, so no point investing in innovation when there's virtually no competition.

Great comparison video!

As beautiful as the Kindle display is (literally looks just like paper), I felt I didn't need a dedicated eReader, so I opted for the iPad mini.

To compare these devices head to head as the title of this video infers is an apples and oranges comparison (no pun intended). The two devices do not have the same audience in mind. If you want a tablet, get the tablet that makes the most sense for you (iOS, Android, or perhaps even an Amazon Fire). The beauty of the new Kindle Paperwhite (2021) is the form factor, the ease of readability in almost any location, the ability to read without blue-light eye strain, etc. And let's be clear, these aren't novel innovations from previous generations of the Paperwhite. Rather, these are just significant improvements. If you are pondering a Kindle of any sort, certain assumptions can likely be made upfront -- the most important of which being that you're already in the Amazon kindle book ecosystem or want to be in it and don't have content in other places. Here's the reality. If you are a serious reader who likes the convenience of not carrying books around, are already in the Amazon Kindle ecosystem for books, and want to be able to read anywhere, distraction-free, without battery or glare anxiety, then the 2021 Paperwhite may be an excellent upgrade for you. If you want a tablet that has the ability to read from multiple different book sources but may not be the best reader in all conditions but has other functionality, get the tablet. Or, you might opt for both. But again to view this video as a head-to-head comparison does neither device justice. They both CAN function as eReaders and give a great experience, the question is which experience is more important to you the consumer. The review **is fair and accurate** but the title is misleading as these devices are both excellent in their abilities but also have vastly different intended user bases.

Would never consider an iPad for reading books. The charging issue alone makes that an easy decision.

Been using my iPad for reading...but decided to dig out my super old Kindle Paperwhite.
They both have their positives...one major thing I love about the ipad is how easy it is to look words up I don't understand. I'm re-reading the Game Of Thrones series and I'm constantly highlighting names and doing google searches directly from the book to find photos from the tv show of the person so I get a better idea of who they are...and I obviously can't do that on my Kindle.
However...I find I'm reading a whole heck of a lot more now that I brought my Kindle back out. It just feels better to me. It's easier on my eyes and it's far more compact than my iPad (using an 11").

I have been using first an iPad Mini, then an iPad Air, and latest an iPad Pro 11” for reading and studying. Two months ago I passed over my iPad Pro to my kid and got a Kindle Paperwhite 6.8”. I read 5 times more books than before – and I mostly read mathematical and statistical textbooks… the key reasons why a Kindle is better for me, are the better screen experience, and also the always-with-me form factor. I can still highlight texts on the Kindle, although I cannot scribble on the books any more, and also, reading PDFs are not so good (but also not so bad). My eyes appreciate the reading experience.

Have had an older Paperwhite for years, have a mini 5 and bought a new PW thinking surely they would have fixed the abysmally slow frustrating software. Nope—I like the size/weight but don’t like the nighttime dark theme for in bed reading—terrible, and just gave up and went back to my Mini 5 for in bed reading. I read a LOT—have tons of books on both my Kindle and my Ipads (or in cloud)— sometimes use my 12.9 to read also so have books downloaded to all devices, including phone. My Kindle app on Ipads knows my Amazon account also and gives me choice to which device I want downloaded—the major plus for the Kindle for me was size/weight (very occasionally outside reading but normally read under roof outside so not a problem) but I can’t read newspapers, other reading sources, no illustrations. Having both I can use both—but I tend to pick up the Mini much more often than the Paperwhite.

Well, this is apples and oranges. I’m an Apple fanboy, but no matter the settings I change, doing serious reading on the device causes eye strain. The only reason why I go for the ink devices.

If you are just going to read books, Kindle for sure. For text books, magazines, etc. then Ipad mini is way better. I use kindle for reading, but am getting an Ipad mini for all those other types of reading. A kindle kind of sucks for large text books because it can be slow to bounce around, search, mark up etc. Ipad makes it a lot easier for those reasons.

Kindle- Lower refresh rate and lesser blue light is MUCH better for night time reading. Does not disturb sleeping partners. Battery life is insane. Kindle, no distractions and the Kindle is 30% lighter.

I prefer the iPad as I use multiple reading apps, and the iPad allows me to read them all. I use apps like booklive, honto and bookmeter, not just kindle so the iPad is a clear winner for me

I have Kindle Paperwhite and iPad Pro 11. What restrains me from reading on Kindle is the performance of the device when you read a book, when you want to flip a page and when highlight a paragraph, the device goes into seizure, with keeping in mind the nature of E-ink screen. Kindle is good for those who want to go to the beach and want to keep reading and have a bit of patency. To those who are worried about Eye straining, hear me out; in iPadOS setting you iBooks/Kindle Apps come with built-in options for improving the visuals when reading, something like using night shift, reduced the brightness when reading, and as you mentioned in the video, I applied a screen protection to avoid glare while reading.

Personally I would go with iPad because as a programmer I don’t want to pay for every book that I read and I can used notes app take notes that I can leep in one place.
Kindle is more for people who are into novels and other books for me if there is a free pdf available for that book I don’t wanna pay for that on kindle
