Hi there! My name is Maneetpaul Singh, but my friends call me Maneet (pronounced muh-neet).

I'm based out of NYC and make YouTube videos about Book Tech and digital reading.

Think of me like the MKBHD of books 😅

Whenever you’re ready, here are a few other ways I can help you:

1. Read a new book with me every month

2. Check out the books I’ve written

TL;DR:

I had a Kindle Basic earlier and I absolutely loved the size and weight. I then upgraded to Paperwhite 2021. On paperwhite, I absolutely love the warm light. Not only at night, but also in the day, the warmlight makes it look so much more like a real paper page. But the size and weight are just too much. I have the official Amazon case on, and I can't hold it comfortable for more than a few minutes. I wish they release a Basic+Warmlight sometime 🤞

I feel the indented screen is actually an advantage as it acts like an extra protection if you put the kindle face down.

Thank you for your in-depth comparisons and analysis videos -- I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these! I was surprised you didn't mention one of the biggest differences between these two models: weight. I've has a signature edition for about a year, and I love everything about it, except how heavy and uncomfortable it gets to hold onto after a while, and the flush bezels make it even harder to hold onto the sidee without accidentally turning the page. I recently got the new basic edition for my wife based on those facts, especially since they've evened out a lot of the other differences. For readers with arthritis or fibro or any other condition that affects hand strength/grip/pain, this can be a deciding factor.

“If you spill stuff a lot” - that was a deciding factor on my purchasing a paperwhite 😂 along with the warm light. Great review!

I just got the new Kindle basic and I’m really happy with it. I wanted the smaller and lighter size. Plus I wanted the blue color. Love it.

The warm light was the defining factor for me. My eyes are hella sensitive to blue light so warmer screens are a must rather than an option. Also, the larger screen is a big deal too, reading this at night feels better than reading a physical book IMO.

note for the future: the rubbery reeling plastic of the paperwhite plastic finish will degrade over time (several years) and then become sticky/gummy it's a known finish/treatment
that feels great for a few years then it decays and goes all gluey and horrible (i have it on a few synths here)
for me i'd go with the normal plastic as i'd like to use a kindle for more than 4 years.
If you're fine with refreshing your kindle every 5 or so years you might never get to the plastic glue stage.

That’s a good point about the blue colour being a bit distracting. I hadn’t thought about that but I can see how that would be the case.

Really good review. Very likeable guy and delivered all the information I needed to make the choice between both models. Thanks a lot

Thank you for this video. I have been trying to decide which Kindle to get. I was leaning toward the Paperwhite since it was larger until you mentioned that the Basic's screen was clear and sharper. My Basic came yesterday and I love it. I have issues with my eyes that make real books and digital books hard to read for long. The customization options on the Basic make it absolutely perfect.

I have owned the 2018 PW 4 that has a six inch screen and now I have a PW 5 standard. I gave the 2018 version to our daughter to use and she’s happy with it.

When the new Kindle basic came out I was curious to see if I wanted to go back to a six inch screen and lighter weight. My daughter and I switched Kindles for a week and I missed the warm light and bigger screen ALOT!! it does make a difference going from 6.8 to 6 inches if you’re used to the bigger screen.

I work from home and rarely travel distances everyday that would allow me to read while out and about. So I’m happy to have the larger screen at home with warm light.

If I had a work commute on public transportation or traveled fairly often each week, the six inch I feel is the way to go. Unless you go near water everyday 😊

I still can't decide. I really want warm light (I read mostly at night) but I really dislike flush screens (they feel the opposite of premium to me, what is premium about fingerprints and less contrast?). I might go with the basic because I can always read with a lamp I guess.

I have both the New Paperwhite and the New Basic, and to me there is a difference in speed, with the Paperwhite being faster, so I would guess that the processors are likely not the same. Another noticeable difference between the Paperwhite and Basic is battery life. Over time, I've come to realize that my Paperwhite lasts maybe 20-25% longer on a full charge than the Basic.🤔 And to be perfectly honest, between the two models, the Basic could easily become my GOTO Kindle👍

Thank you for the comaparation, as a night only reader (I work on nightshit with a 10 hours pattern so i do not get many hours of dalight) and the yellowish sceen will sure help. Most likely i will get it today when I wake up... Can't wait to go from a book now and then to some pages every day... the fact that I need to order books online (as far as the books that I read in the last year where not sold in my city) discouraged me a little bit since I did no know if I will like it or not.. but with this... let's say i get past the sample and i find out that the book is not for me... bad luck.. boom testing new ones in seconds and when I am decided.. well I just go alon.. no more waiting for delivery :D Next stop...Starwars books (more than 200 books to go... it will be a looong time until I will be without something to read if they manage to catch me XD

I’ve have a Paperwhite for a year and a half now and I’ve grown tired of the flush screen. It just doesn’t look as good and the screen attracts a lot more fingerprints. I am debating buying either a kindle basic or a kobo Clara 2e since I want to be able to read epub books from my library.

I have the Paperwhite & having come from an iPad I LOVE it. My idea device though would be all the current Paperwhite features in a 6” screen. My kindle much like my phone is an EDC so the slightly smaller size is ideal, though the 6.7” is compact like a paperback. The flush screen & temperature adjustment were the deciding factors, I use the temp adjustment every time I read.

For me personaly flush screen is a deal breaker. I had both Kindle Paperwhite 4 and Oasis 3 and every time I read on it felt like I need stronger glasses, slightly blurry and that very often gave me headaches from trying to “focus” my eyes on it. Then I bought PocketBook InkPad 3 Pro and later Kobo Libra 2 and oh boy, that’s a huge difference! It no longer gives me headaches, everything is as sharp as a printed book and I absolutely love it. Unless Amazon brings new premium Kindle with indented screen, I’m never going back.
