The Signature edition also doesn’t have ads. So that’s $20 bucks that you save right there.

You want/need the extra storage, then fine. But wireless charging and auto-brightness are beyond overrated, especially for an ereader.

Signature Edition is also .5mm thicker which means the front flap on Amazon cases doesn't sit flush when closed. Sent my Sig back and got regular version and never looked back. Great update overall though!!

for $50 extra, I'd love a cover as well.

The storage size difference is hardly "little", it's over 400% of a difference...except for that (which further poses the question of how many people really need more storage than the smaller one anyways), this was an excellent overview of the differences. Thank you.

I was lucky enough to catch a signature edition paperwhite with no ads for the same price as a base model paperwhite. Very excited for my weekend to come lol

Not a single chance I would need more than 8 gigs for my ePub > mobi conversion (no comics, no audio books). Wireless charging and auto brightness : just don't need those features. I more than fine with the cheapest one which I enjoy very much since purchase.

A "little more" storage? 4 times (netto 5 times according to your measurements) the storage!
That way my entire Kindle library of over 1000 ebooks fits on the device and I only have to activate WiFi when I want to buy new books.

I think Amazon should have introduced a bigger storage variant for Paperwhite only....( Excluding the Signature Edition).... Because $50 just primarily for storage is way too much....

I just bought the 8 gig version. I use my phone for audio books. Upgrading from a kindle 3rd gen so it should be plenty for me.

It seems that many have forgotten (and Amazon is conveniently omitting in its promotion of this newer model) that the 10th Gen was also available in 32 gigs with no ads and priced at 179. I have that model and will keep mine for now. Let’s see what comes with the next updated version. Not worth it for me.

Does the signature version have a charging slot as well with wireless cable?

I think if I did not have the latest Oasis, I might go for the signature edition, but I’m definitely not exchanging the Oasis for it. Built-in buttons, slightly larger screen, auto-rotate are pretty nice. USB-C is nice, but honestly it’s not exactly a headache to charge the Oasis. Yes, I know this is a video comparing the two models of paperwhite 😄

I never understood why Kindles have so much of their storage taken up by the firmware. I had a 5th gen kindle basic in 2012, which only had 2GB of storage but nearly half of it is taken up by the firmware, and that hasn't changed much in nearly 10 years, at least on the 8GB model. I am getting a Kindle Paperwhite standard edition because the price increase to 32GB isn't worth it to me, but why can't we bump the base model to 16GB. It can't be that expensive, especially when there are fully featured smartphones selling for less than $139.99 that come stock with 32GB of storage, and even one phone at $140 that has 128GB of storage.

I was torn between the paperwhite and the signature edition and in the end got the 16gb paperwhite. It’s still way way more book capacity than I need and I don’t plan on storing thousands of books on the actual kindle.

1) How many books fits on an 8 gig Kindle?

2) What's "free unlimited" option on Kindle for?
