Man, never has someone channeled all of their pain and anguish into their performances like Janis. It just explodes out of her.

might be a different band, but you can't deny the voice. A janis joplin right now is exactly what modern music needs. We are desperately in need of some real singers

I am convinced that in any era, even today, the voice and singing of Janis Joplin would stand out and have its own audience.

Raw passion and pain has no season; she'd be a legend today, too. And if not...the failure would be ours.

she pushed the limits...and there was no autotune...or vocal effects... a real pioneer

As you read, Janice was a complete unknown until this performance. She just exploded on the scene. The long take of the woman with the sunglasses to her mouth was Mama Cass Elliott of the Mamas and the Papas realizing she was seeing something great. Yes Janice's backing band was 2nd class and when the producers finally pried her away from them they disappeared into the masses again. She was developing into a more skilled performer before her untimely death. That curse of the 27 year olds. She was always lonely as her family had disowned her and she always felt ugly and unable to have a man for a meaningful relationship. It was ultimately that loneliness that drove her to the extremes that lead to her death.

I can't imagine not being blown away by her under any circumstance. That's a voice that punches you in the face.

I love the look of awe on Cass Elliots face! Reminds me of the first time I heard Janis Joplin sing.... I was blown away! 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

That was Cass Elliot in the crowd watching Janice. You should react to her next. I suggest "Dream a Little Dream". In a footnote, in the crowd scene at the end of the video, the guy in the white sweater was the new president of Sony records. He signed the group by the end of the day. He was impressed.

Janis is timeless. Other vocalists and performers can only dream and never come close to her.

Answer to your question- Yes. Her voice is raw and her songs convey so much emotion that you can’t help but love listening to her.

I've been waiting for this. Although she died before I was born, Janis is my all-time favorite female singer. Her passion is unmatched. RIP, Queen of the Blues. 🕊

Age absolutely would still be appreciated today. My favorite of hers is summertime... unbelievable. Also.. the woman being shown in awe was the one and only Mama Cass.

I saw Janis with Big Brother in 1968. One of the most mesmerizing things I've ever seen. She let her soul pour from her.
There was a problem with the recording on this which is why some of the sound is wonky.
Side note: The woman in the sunglasses was Mama Cass from The Mamas and the Papas.
The closest singer I've heard to her is Beth Hart. If you haven't already done so, watch Beth Hart's performance of Am I the One at Paradiso to see what I mean.

Janis actually evolved from this performance. Me and Bobby McGee is an example. She would have evolved with the times. You have to remember this was the height of rock and roll.

She’s perfect & timeless. Piece of my heart.

Yes Because She Sang Her Soul. And showed her wounds on stage.

I was at this festival having grown up in that area. This stage and arena is actually the horse show arena I spent my childhood attending. I think Janice would still be celebrated for her authenticity and passion. I saw her several years later at the Avalon Ballroom in SF and she blew the doors off the place.
