Janis Joplin was a one of a kind singer with a unique voice. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs such as "Me & Bobby McGee", "Ball & Chain", "Cry Baby", "Summertime", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over", "Mercedes Benz" etc.

Her live "Ball and Chain" is where you SEE the passion that matches the voice. Iconic performance in every way. Hope you two awesome reactors watch it down the line!

She was incredible. She was a member of the "27 Club" along with Hendrix and Morrison. Texas girl with an unfortunate fondness for Southern Comfort and H.

very hard tragic life. she really unleashes the pain through her raw vocals. her rendition of "Ball and Chain" at the Monterey Pop Festival was her breakout performance where the world met jj. may she have found peace and acceptance in the great beyond, RIP pearl!

Janis was absolutely a legend. But we can give some credit to "her" band, "Big Brother and the Holding Company" as well. The album "Cheap Thrills" was the most iconic. Then she went solo, performing without them at Woodstock. Her voice is thanks to cigarettes and Southern Comfort. Watch her live at the Monterey Pop Festival doing "Ball and Chain".

Her cover of "Summertime" is one of my favorites.

Janis Joplin had three albums (two with Big Brother and the Holding Company and one solo album). A second solo album, Pearl, was released in January 1971, just over three months after her death. It reached number one on the Billboard charts.

Beautiful, sad soul which she expressed with every note she sang. She makes you feel she's literally singing for her life, which I think she often was. Great video.

"Ball & Chain" (Monterey Festival)
It was her first big stage appearance. Reactors don't generally know who the woman in the audience with her jaw on the ground from hearing Janice is. It's the legend Mama Cass from the Mamas & Papas. It's truly a gift that we have that video.

Janis was one of her kind. In the few short years we had her on this planet, her influence on music was huge. it is still present in our music today. She is simply the g.o.a.t.

THE Legendary Janis Jopliin, how I loved her, even my kids and grandkids fell in love too. You must see her live performance, pure, raw emotion. Fantastic.

"Me and Bobby McGee" is probably one of my favorites from Janis. It just paints such a story and memory in your mind as she sings it.

Great reaction! You reminded me of something I haven't felt since the last time I listened to Janis, and it's been a while. So great that you decided to do this particular song, as it is my favorite to actually have seen live in Chicago (2 hour drive for me). But her performance at Monterey is, as others have already said, in a class by itself. She leaves nothing behind but raw emotion. Anyway, thanks again. 👍

You really need to check her out live. She was such a high energy, volcanic performer--it's like a shot of adrenalin to see her. She took her cue from Tina Turner--no dancing but lots of nervous, jittery movements with feather boas in her hair flitting around everywhere and the expressions on her face of pleading or joy or anger. She injected a lot of blues and soul into the acid rock of the 60s. Monterey Pop is a classic performance with her singing "Ball and Chain."

Janis was one of a kind. Unique talent and soulful voice. Only 27 and a legend just imagine what she could have done with more life and music to have shared. Such memories to have to be listening to her and other music on board ship in the U.S.Navy in January 1971. Thanks for the video it was great y'all !! Nice nestalgia appreciate it!

An alltime great . Funny that you said she had a great rock and roll voice . I think her voice is blues, country, jazz, soul, rock and roll, and maybe even gospel, but most of all it is wonderful
