That’s the famous Harden double side step. His double step back is even more deadly.

I swear these refs in the NBA don’t call anything these days.

That was literally a travel across the universe like bruh

Right foot - gather step
Left foot push off - first step
Both feet land behind the line - second and third step

CLEARLY a travel.

3 and it's definitely a travel, traveling to the moon with his side - step.

Do y’all know how much practice it takes to make this a close call? Harden’s a master of this craft.

Definetely between 0 and 100, I can tell you that

There are two types of step-backs that are legal & you need to add to your 🎒 ⬇️

1. dribble & step-back = two steps (legal) <Regular step-back

2. dribble step back (gather the ball) than step back again (legal) <double step-back

Guess what? James Harden uses number two a lot which is legal!

It’s honestly a really close call. You can’t count steps until he gathers the ball with both hands. His gather is so very close to that little hop before his big side step, which is the one that would make it a three step travel…I don’t envy the refs job, let’s just say that.

3. You have to look at when he picks up the dribble and controls the ball with two hands. Travel but close.

James Harden: is this a travel?
Also James Harden: *takes 2 steps, gets in a car, goes to the airport, and flies to Australia to make it on a different hoop*

The total steps he did are 4, however, he took 2 steps before he holds the ball with two hands and then he took 2 more steps after he put his other hand on the ball.

Ya see, normally that gather step works with 2 more steps like that dunk vid from Giannis. But here after the dribble there are 4 steps.
Step 1, gather, 3 more steps. That's a travel and it's difficult to spot. Which is why this move is so controversial. Because depending on the situation and execution it's almost a 50-50 call by the officials.

if you watch it in slow motion, you can see that he gathers the ball with both hands and then takes two steps. It looks like a travel because he does it very fast, he takes a step, gathers the ball with two hands and then takes two steps, therefore no travel.

Three steps this guy traveled across the universe

2. The first 2 were more like gather steps if anything. He bounced while taking the first two steps. Which the last step is setting your foot for a shot. The 3rd step is actually the step back

2 steps, he only takes two steps from the point both of his hands are on the ball. Not a travel but a creative and well timed move

3 or 4 steps depending on if that step with his right foot happened before or after his second hand came on the ball.

TRAVEL!! Even if the NBA has zero step, its literally a

So for the gather step, I can keep the ball in one hand for two steps to gather then get my other hand on the ball to get two more steps?

It should be a travel call even though it wasnt
