So many holes in this story are filled in by DS3, I love it. The "smaller towns" around Anor Londo are Irithyl and other towns created by Pontiff and the Deacons, Gwyn's firstborn is the Nameless King, etc.

and then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

i prefer the theory in which havel tried to convince gwyn that seath must be stopped so seath framed havel by sending a mimic with an occult club to his basement which means the club will be found in havel's possession which will make gwyn want to lock him away. it explains why the mimic is there in the game since mimics are seath's agents, and also havel seems to me like an honorable knight, i dont think he would betray gwyn

Gwyn: Well boys we did it the dragons are no more.
Seath the scaleless: *Cough*.
Gwyn: except you of course. *BOI* .

I like minimalistic and simple titles, and if people watch it to the end then they'll realise there's a part 2

If you believe that Priscilla is the offspring of Seath and Gwynevere (which seems very likely), then perhaps Seath was more attached to Gwynevere than she to him. Such a union would have been forbidden, as evidenced by Priscilla's banishment to the Painted World, which Gwynevere would have agreed to, so that proof of her affair could be hidden away. Seath on the other hand, lost a child, and a lover who did not love him. Seath tried so hard to attain the immortality of his kin, but it had brought him only loneliness, and an eternal lifespan, without chance at love or affection, would drive anyone mad. Perhaps that is why Seath became insane, and perhaps that is why is so enamored with collecting maidens and experimenting with them... The maidens have become monstrosities, oddly serpentine like Seath himself. Maybe he's just trying to recreate the existence of a child harshly taken away from him, to fill the void of eternal loneliness.

every day I learn more about dark souls, i think the people behind it are amazing.
this is the most hardcore story/game ever made. I can't believe how deep the story is and if you don't read the item descriptions u catch none of it. this is...mind blowing. i love it

I've sort of changed my opinion of developer-intended meaning after doing this series. I try to interpret the game entirely separate from what is known about the developers intention.

It's sort of like a piece of music in that regard. The composer may have a message he wants to convey, but music can be so ambiguous that everyone will see it differently. And i think it's better to judge it on its own merits. Dark Souls is like that, to me anyway.

Wait, if dark cannot exist without light, then how can the light fade and only dark remain?

I can't get over how well thought out this game is. Just about every location in the game, every item has its place in the lore and it's like you're living out the history of the game as you play it.

How did the flame start to begin with? Just magically pops out of nowhere and boom go up to the earth.

"How does Darkness exist without Light?"

Just like that, actually.

Nice observation! I forgot about that piece of dialogue. I'd say your right, and that's definitely something i've overlooked.

I wonder if the reason why time is distorted in Lordran is because Gwyn's first born lost the annals because annals means historical record and I believe this annals he lost aren't just ordinary record but it keeps the time in place and because of that no wonder they stripped off his godhood. Wouldn't make too much sense but just my speculation.

"What is Dark Souls? Is it action? Is it horror?"
Dark souls is a tragedy.

Gwyn, the one responsible for the state of the world. You fight through the whole game knowing that you will have to face Gwyn. The kiln contains the last remnants of Gwyn's army, whom he led to their deaths. For all the suffering you've seen throughout the Lordran, you feel motivated to defeat him. You kill the last black knight, and walk through the fog. And now you get here.
To this man, who's barely more than a hollow, let alone a God. With no cutscene, no grandiose music, and none of Gwyn's famous lightning miracles, Gwyn mindlessly charges you, only the somber music playing to punctuate the moment. Gwyn, Lord of Sunlight, no, Lord of Cinder, is cut down like just another mindless hollow. Someone who has no unpredictable attacks, and doesn't use any gimmicks. Just a fight. For 99% of us, you defeat him the first time. But you don't just defeat him; you methodically clip him down. You take no risks, give no mercy. This song isn't about an epic battle. It's a song about a slaughter. It sings the mountain you climbed, the countless deaths you endured, the long road that's now behind you. It has an almost nostalgic feel, and how could it not, when you slay the only Soul that can yet prevent the world from fading away into raw entropy. That's when it sets in. Gwyn was as much of a victim as anyone else. You didn't kill a corrupt king or a demon lord, you enacted a long overdue mercy killing on a poor, sad, scared old man who couldn't bring himself to face change. All the hatred for him disappears, and you're left with only pity. The same feeling you'd feel for the hollowed enemies you've fought the whole game.

"And the Eternal Dragons were no more..." save for one huge black dragon and a handful of zombie dragon assholes.

Well, he still had his sanity left. I think it's always admirable if someone fights the inevitable.

That's a great theory. It's a good example of how there's so many things that could be responsible for the Dark Sign. Was it the witch and that energy? Did nito create undeath? Did Gwyn link the undead to the bonfire? Did Seath discover something? I'm sure we'll find out more about the origins in the sequel.
