To this day, the idea of a nobody like Gael becoming the most powerful being at the end of the world sends chills down my freaking spine, damn.

Soul of cinder should be second place since they possess the powers and abilities of everyone who has ever linked the flame including Gwyn. Arguably this alone puts them at one but since we're told Slave knight Gael is the only person left alive at the end of the world/time (not including yourself) that probably means he killed the soul of cinder in order to attain the dark soul or simply out lived it.

I still say Ivory King is criminally underrated. In the end he may have been consumed by the Old Chaos but he did halt it's spread so his sacrifice was one of the few in the history of Dark Souls to actually mean something.

I suppose you could speculate that Aldia could be on the top of the list since unlike Gael or any of the others who die when you defeat them Aldia is just fine. But the nature of Aldia is so complicated he might as well not be applicable.

Actually the furtive pygmy isn't powerful if we talk about his pure strenght but with the unique power of the dark soul I think it can be placed both in first or last position, depending on what definition of power we embrace

The only one missing here is Aldia. His fight is more of a test rather than an attempt to kill the bearer of the curse. Aldia was the only person who saw the true nature of the world from start to end, he managed to scape light and dark to become some sort of force of nature with self awareness.
