An extra detail for you: after Ornstein absorbs Smough, not only does he adopt the famous ground pound attack, he also inherits Smough's laugh, and laughs during the attack!

I found it funny how Ornstein shows reverence to his fallen comrade when absorbing him, while Smough just turns him into a fucking pancake and basically eats him with his hammer when its his turn. 💀

Ornstein shows so much more respect after you fell Smough. Touches him gently, almost like a “thanks old friend” before absorbing his power. Smough is just a pure glutton lol

In a ironic twist of fate, smough who was known for eating those he executed, ended up being eaten by Aldrich.

I always thought smoughs voice was echoing around the arena, but it bouncing around inside his metal suit makes far more sense. Such great sound design

In my head cannon, he crushes ornstein before he dies so the soul is not absorved by his enemies, like the nameless king does to polly.

I think maybe the reasons why he laughs when he kills ornstein is A) Free power and B) It he gets some kind of euphoria realizing that he outlived the captain of the knights of Gywn

The eye slits are similar to the silver knight helmets. I’m assuming both were created by the nameless blacksmith.

Also, an executioner who uses a hammer? That's straight up sadistic. The axe and the guillotine were the chosen method of execution for their ability to instill fear in the crowds who would watch on in horror while the condemned would die swiftly. A hammer, (presumably) of solid metal with a diameter equal to that of a small car is quite brutal.

Another fun fact is that the man is so unstable that he grinds his victims bones into his soup or chilli to eat them similar to Leatherface

The fun thing with Smough is that from the concept art we can learn that he's not fat, but has a very muscular figure.
