Here is Quick video where Im comparing My Mesa Mark IV, and Mark 5.
both amps were recorded at band level volumes to Mesa OS cab, I didn't try to make them sound identical but just adjusted them to my taste and similar feel.
thanks for watching

Mark IV lead sounds amazing, so aggressive, I have no idea why Mesa boogie smoothed it out on the Mark V.

I think the biggest mistake that people make when comparing the Mark V to the IIC+ or IV is that they tend to take the settings from those OG amps and essentially plug them directly in to the V for comparison. Its either the V or Five:35 manual that provides direct comparison starting point settings. As those settings, the JP youtube demo and other Youtube comparison videos have shown, the V can sound quite like the OG amps if you utilize different/adjusted eq settings (although theres always going to be differences between amps from completely different production processes). Earlier marks will be geared more towards more vintage "wide-opened" metal (what was popular then) and newer marks will cater towards more compressed modern metal (whats popular now). Also, amps like the Mark V and VII are snapshots of the most popular setting spectrums on the OG amps. Theyre never going to be able to replicate every outlier setting combination on a given previous amp

I have a V and it's awesome. In your video I couldn't really pick a better or a worse. In mine, I usually use the crunch and the MKIV modes boosted with a TS. The fat mode is a great clean sound, too!

Rythm 2 is great if you are going for a clean crunch unless you go for the Mesa suggested mod. Why does everyone do the dry settings on these amps. I'm about ready to do a Mesa/boogie Mark iv rev a demonstration of their full capacity of what they can and do.

Which do you prefer? I haven't played either one but 'm going to be buying one in the coming months but can't decide. Almost everything I've read online has trashed the V's lead channel saying that the IV's lead is way better at metal and is more brutal sounding. Also that the IV's crunch channel is basically useless at a good mid gain and usable metal rhythm sound. From your video though it seems like the IV's crunch channel is more than capable of doing a good mid/high gain and that the V's lead channel sounded almost identical to the IV. Is it more of a feel thing that people are talking about it or is there really that big of a difference?
