The III has a nice thickness in the mids, but the IV is basically mix-ready

Either or, really. Mark II-Mark whatever we’re on now, they’re all just slight variants of the same sound, if you get one w/a 5-band, they can all be dialed pretty similar. I love the Mark sound.

The Mark IV may have more convenient operation, so maybe I’d pick it over the III if that’s the case.

On the other hand, I’m also a huge fan of Jim “Fatso” Martin and he used a MKIII, it doesn’t really matter, I love ANY of the high gain Mark amps w/the graphic EQ.

III is more warm and pleasing to the ears

Depends what you want to do with it. My Mkiii GS can be dialed a lot of ways.

Mark iv! I think it would cut through a mix a lot better from your two settings.

most important thing is, they could be dialed to sound very close, so it's not like "one is better", only thing the III can't recreate is the pushed presence of the IV, so there's your preference.

Miss my Mark IV, but not paying current pricing for one or a V or VII. Will stick to modeling at this point.

Think the Mark IV is sticking out to me a bit more.🤙 Both are awesome

Both are great, but I would pick the IV. That last sustaining chord did it for me.

Can't be too much difference since you're using the Quad Cortex. Hey, they both sound decent on my end!

If i had to choose one for a mix it would be the iv . It sounds like it would cut better.

I pick the quad cortex because it gives you both

Love my Mark III Blue Stripe! Definitely has more clarity but the IV is still great in its own right. I just prefer the III by a long shot.

I remember plugging into one of those IV's at Mesa Boogie Hollywood back in like 2010. I liked it, had the money(I think it was 1299 for the head) but didn't buy it I know I'm a dummy

Definitely the Mark IV... though they both sound great in different ways.

i think the katana sneaky amps use some type of both of these calling them the vintage rectifier and the modern rectifier. i can say they have similar characteristics with the tone change. i like the vintage better or better known as the mark 3.. lol. the 4 is better for drop tuned stuff and the 3 is better for E and D. thats what i kinda do.

The IV midrange sounds more authentic and vocal. Also chuggs
