👉 Join me as we take an early look at Microsoft's brand new Surface Pro 11 which is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite chipset which promises to be quite the leap forward for Windows on ARM. Not only that but Windows now has the new PRISM translation layer which improves compatibility with x86 games and apps. Please join me as we briefly examine the potential for PC gaming using this new translation layer as well as native ARM emulation with Playstation Portable, Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Wii as well as others like Switch emulation.

Let me know what you might want to see tested! 🙏

Finally a look at emulation on one of these, this is the kind of gaming I'd be looking to do on here.

Im so glad you made this video ive been considering getting this and emulation is my main form of gaming so this is so useful man. Great video!!

Definitely performing better than I would have expected, game wise! I got the Surface Laptop 7, which is the same chipset and RAM as this, and so far the only game I've tried is World of Warcraft, which is compiled for arm, and runs flawlessly. I can get it over 60fps by lowering settings. Thank you for the look at emulation, I'm mostly interested in nintendo platforms, so it's great to hear Dolphin has a native arm build, and I will test that. I'm going to look up SNES and GBA emulators and try those. Thanks for a great video!

Thanks for this video. A random itch I was curious about when I was looking at Surfaces.

I'm not planning to play x86 games here since I have my Intel NUC Phantom Canyon with 32GB RAM at home. I only care about console emulation, and I'm really happy to see AetherSX2 (and also PCSX2) works well here. Finally, a great time to buy Windows ARM device.

Great video. Really impressed. Out of curiosity, have you tried install an ARM Linux? I would love to dual boot on it.

Rob, I love your videos. But we need more. I feel like you could do more if you didn't do the podcasts. Your work is miles beyond that.

I would guess it won't be long before a build of Sudachi with the NCE (native code execution) feature is available, like on Android builds.

So my ideal device is a tablet, or a 2-in-1 laptop with enough gaming chops to be a competent road-trip companion, but also, ya'know, provides the comforts and convenience of a tablet form factor.

X Elite is OK, but not quite what I was hoping for in terms of performance. Is it possible we'll see games that run via translation improve as devices with the chipset are out longer and there's more work done on them? Or is it more likely I'll be waiting for Strix Halo or Intel XE 2 to find their way (hopefully) into a Surface Pro or similar device in the future if I'm looking for better gaming performance and don't necessarily care if it's ARM architecture or not?

This is awesome, though I could easily tell GTA 5 was not running natively, it's so skippy, prism at work! From what I can tell, the games aren't really playable imo. GOW, like... wow.. I'm sure the 1% lows are horrible. I dunno man, even GOW on PPSSPP looks skippy, not sure if it's your capture card but 60fps should look much smoother than that. 10:59

Well it has plenty of room to grow, looking forward to when it does! I think we're quite a ways away from getting these chips in handhelds.

Great review! I'm way more impressed by it's productivity. Could you test out Premiere and Lightroom? I'd more likely use these chips with everything else aside of gaming, for now.

Thanks for reviewing this chipset! I was curious about Emulation and this pretty much answered all my questions. I was thinking about replacing my old laptop with these new Snapdragon ones because of battery life and performance. How is the standby time? I know Windows is notorious for sipping away battery if you don’t shut the pc down and just go sleep mode overnight.

This will be great when the power increases. Imagine if the xbox store is available on snapdragon mobiles. Its going to be great days for emulation when windows is fully playable.

14:24 Ryujinx *does* run natively on ARM. You just have to compile it yourself. And it runs games really well. If you like to, I can send you my own compiled version, if you don't have much expirience with compiling yourself.
