Snapdragon X Elite laptops are here! | ASUS Vivobook S15 (2024)

Early review of the ASUS Vivobook S15 2024, powered by Snapdragon X Elite - a fresh Apple M3 competitor, designed for fast mobile performance. I've played with the Vivobook S15 OLED for a couple of days and here's my first impressions.

The ARM-based Snapdragon X Elite is certainly capable as those benchmarking tests show, although Steam games like Spiderman Remastered suffered from graphical glitches. Or simply refused to run. For everyday multi-tasking, the ASUS Vivobook S15 2024 absolutely smashed it, showing no signs of slow-down.

Battery life isn't as good as I'd hoped, with this ASUS Snapdragon X Elite laptop not even coming close to the 18 promised hours. At the moment I'm getting around seven to eight hours of play time on a single charge of the ASUS Vivoboook S15 2024.

Can you do a comparison of this new Vivobook to the Zenbook 14 OLED 2024? I am curious how the Core Ultra 7 processors match up to the Snapdragon X Elite.

The Matter of fact is Qualcomm ARM processor is emulating Games which were designed for running on X86 processor and getting above 30-35 fps average which is really awesome.

How does this perform on Linux? If support for the X Elite on Linux is good it could perform way better than using Windows especially if the apps are compiled natively for the new Snapdragon architecture, for which support and performance can only improve with time. Or is it emulating x86 on Windows and sill giving decent performance?

Remember there is a court action in September (conclude December) that if Qualcomm lose and the judge rules that they have to stop making these chips, as ARM has asked, then you may be landed with a machine that is DOA. Of course, Qualcomm may not lose, or ARM may accept a settlement, but I would be wary as to buying this especially as when asked Qualcomm has not confirmed that consumers will be compensated.

On some images, you operate by touching the screen. As far as I know, this model does not have a touch screen. Can you please clarify?

I might missed the cheaper 'graphite' laptop but not where it was, and that other Vaio I had for gaming that never repaired from the fluorescent setting. Namastè.

I think that Asus must use IPS panel for X Elite laptop, becuase 15.6" 3K OLED (120hz) power consumption is very high, thanks.
