How Do Electric Vehicles Work?

Ever wondered how EVs get from A to B? Is it essentially the same as an internal combustion car, but wired up to a giant battery? Or is there some altogether more subtle trickery afoot?

Excellent explanation on how an electric motor works. I’m a mechanical engineer and all I know about electrical is, “twinkle, twinkle little star power equals I squared R”. That got me through the one electrical engineering class I had to take as part of the curriculum.

Norway is closing in on a 80% EV market share at the moment. The last couple of months 70% of all new cars has been electric, and this number is steadily increasing every month. Wouldn't surprise me if we have 90%+ by the end of next year. With long distances being a thing in Norway, short range EV's are only usable in the cities, but with increasing capacities of up to and above 600 km in one charge, the sales of EV's are skyrocketing. I'm still one of those with an old combustion engine though, but next year ... ;)

You can theoretically do this, to make a generator that'd require no fuel.

Edit: The way an EV rotates it's wheels, I meant.
