Electric cars vs Petrol cars

Electric cars or internal combustion engine cars—which is better? Electric cars were in their heyday back in 1900, but a sudden rise in petrol engine cars, accompanied by battery technology inefficiencies killed electric cars by 1920. However, with recent improvements in battery technology and power electronics, electric cars have made a strong comeback. We will compare these totally different technologies scientifically, and come to understand which is superior. Here we are using Tesla model S as electric car to compare with its petrol engine car counter part.

Personally, I'd like to see a future like this: There electric cars powered by batteries for those who don't drive to much, there are hydrogen fuel cell vehicles for those that do a good bit of driving but wish to have an electric motor for propulsion, there are hydrogen gas powered vehicles (would be the replaced fuel for gasoline engines) for those who prefer Internal Combustion Engines, and there are Diesel vehicles powered that use biodiesel for fuel; in this future the consumer would have the greatest choice.

Excellent work LE! Thank you for your engineering videos! I am using your electric vehicle videos in my renewable energy and EV education classes. I would also like to suggest for you to please consider doing LE videos on how photovoltaic solar and concentrated solar power systems work. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

I wish Tesla continues doing a great job in making the cars of the future. There is still room for improvement.

You teach lot lot lot more than what we learn in 2D at our fucking college. <3

When you realize, Electric cars are actually a technology that is older than IC Engine cars

Your channel was useful in teaching me Force, Torque and Induction motor back in 2016. Long live this channel!!!

Excellent video! I was looking for something that was strictly on the engineering differences between the two systems. Thank you

You forget to mention that an IC-Engine wastes about 70% of the energy into heat and friction, only 30% goes to actually moving the wheels. An electric car wastes only about 10%

Awesome channel! Just watched all of your car related stuff and was in awe with all of those ingenious mechanical designs. Too bad that everything will be replaced with simple, robust mechanics and complex software in the future, or this is just how I predict it will happen.
Moving on to your other videos now, this is seriously the first time I'm considering on becoming a Patreon, cheers!

Great video. The comparisons it was missing were the resale value, battery life in electric car vs. engine major repair in IC cars, and the environmental issues at scrap yard, especially with the large batteries used in electrical cars.

I want to have both electric car to work everyday and a classic V8 to have fun.

When saying that it needs one hour of charging its important to point out that you start every day with a full charge if you charge at home. You can not refill your ice car from a regular home. You might not ever go to a "gass station" or fast charger again if you don't do over 4-5 hour trips

There is no issue with "cornering" btw. It is great to drive around fast and curvy backroads here in Germany. The low center of gravity and the good weight distribution is an advantage.
