With a ban on sales of new petrol and diesel cars brought forward to 2030, the rapidly increasing market for electric cars (EVs) is set to grow exponentially as improved models arrive in showrooms. But how do electric vehicles actually work? The Telegraph's motoring editor Paul Hudson explains.
