Why Red Bull's first crisis fix failed to help Verstappen

Red Bull hoped its season would be revitalised by the first crisis remedy for its troubled 2024 Formula 1 car. But not only did it lose the lead in the constructors’ championship to McLaren in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but Max Verstappen also had his worst weekend of the year despite the introduction of an upgrade.

Let's get this straight, the upgrades work, Checo had some decent pace. The problem was the settings they adjusted on Max's car in Q3. He was the test car this weekend, and clearly, the settings didn't work with the upgrades.

Max will still be drivers champion because McLaren, Ferrari and on certain tracks Mercedes will cannibalise each other for points allowing max to retain it.

I wonder if Redbull perhaps tried bringing the car to a more balanced characteristic to get perez more comfortable and be up there scoring points and in doing so started causing the car to become understeery and move away from Max's pointy oversteer preference.

Feel like Max had a lucky weekend here, if Norris had qualified for top 2 or 3 he might have even won this race with max ending on 7 (without a crash). Damn, the next races are gonna be rough as a Max fan lmao.
