The inability to handle kerbs as we saw in Monaco, plus the understeer means that there's a suspension problem. The theory is that the RB20 suspension is too stiff and that's how it handled the porpoising. But in Monaco that hurt the car. Now the car is also struggling with low speed turn-in response and understeer. Perhaps an issue of heave springs/damper delaying too much or being too stiff or something.

So basically ... all improvements in line with the FIA rules allowing the fastest team the least amount of car development.
Rules doing exactly what they were designed to do.
Of the teams with means, McLaren have improved most, then Mercedes, then Ferrari and Red Bull the least. And those teams finished 2023 in 5th, 3rd, 2nd & 1st respectively.

Before watching this (I’m not an engineer 😂) what I’ve been thinking is that Newey had upgrades planned to work with the big shoulders, and since he’s been more hands off, the team went in a different direction due to panic from short-term performance loss. If you look at their performance since they reverted to the RB19 shoulders you could probably see why I think that’s at least part of the issue.

Fp1 it looked better, but Hamilton’s time was blocked by the red flag and we was 6 tenths faster than max. Additionally it’s quite clear rb is running higher df than every other team, which dramatically helps more during dirtier track sessions like fp1 and fp2

Interesting how they're having an issue with data and real world correlation. Maclaren had the same in '23 and the worst start to a season ever, then they had the upgrades for Silverstone and became a front running car. Stella said this was because they looked at their wind tunnel and cfd data differently and were able to make the biggest mid season turn around in performance ever. Maybe Rebull need to poach a couple of Maclaren staff, they seem to be losing enough people.

The lap time improvement stats is pretty useless I would say. Of course RB would have the lesser lap time improvement if they are the fastest+ most dominant car in 2023. I mean the room for improvement is very little compared to the slower cars in 2023.

But Sam, any ideas about the removal of asymmetrical braking from the Redbull? The drop in performance seems too much of a coincidence.

Impressive as it was (and a massive part thanks to Max's consistency), RB19s dominance was as much down to the other teams, particularly Ferrari and Mercedes, dropping the ball with their development and giving Red Bull an easier time.

"Torturous bureaucracy of the UK planning system". You cant just build what you want because you are Red Bull.

No talk of flexible front wing? That is a huge part of Merc and McLaren upgrade package, isn't Red Bull doing the same with their front wing?
