How Red Bull is breaking Formula 1

Formula 1 is the fastest growing sport in the world. Fans from all around the world watch the fastest cars in the world fight each other neck and neck in a 22-race championship. Or, at least that’s what it’s supposed to be. In reality, the last two years have been dominated by one team; Red Bull who’s dominance is breaking almost every record in the sport. So how do they do it? And is it a problem for Formula 1’s business?

👋This is just our first of many F1 videos to come. Couple things I should clarify:

1. Mercedes did indeed win the "Constructors (or team) championship" in 2021, Red Bull won the "drivers championship". I should've clarified the difference between the two. (TY to those that pointed that out)

For those of you that want even more details about how these cars work and driver's styles I really encourage you to check out Scott's channel @Driver61 !

Didn't really touch on the main reason:
Red Bull has Adrian "Ground Effect" Newey, the aerodynamicist who wrote his thesis on ground effect back in the 70's and has been on the pinnacle of motorsport design for more than 40 years.
It's like if you were in a cooking competition and the new rules say that from now on you're only allowed to cook pasta and you were lucky enough to have Italy's Nº1 chef on your team lol.

Another thing not mentioned that some viewers may be unfamliar with about Max is that he is into sim racing. He pretty much has a built in sim setup in his apartment with a fridge of redbulls beside him and the 2021 World driver's championship in top of it. There's entire compilations of him stream racing while his girlfriend's daughter is in the background. Like he bleeds racing both on and off track. There's a philosophy of "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" meaning you win a race to market yourself better, while Max's philosophy is basically "Win on Sunday, Race on Monday", he wins and then after winning he goes straight to the digital version to keep racing

calling Jos a racing legend is a far fetched statement

Great video but a small correction. 1:45 Team Mercedes did win the constructors (teams) championship in 2021. It was the driver’s championship they lost that year

I think the biggest "problem" in F1 is Max. When he, like many other GOAT tier drivers (Hamilton, Vettel, Schumacher, Senna...), gets the right tools underneath him, he's unstoppable and most of all unbelievably consistent. Take him out of the car and we have an exciting season. Schumacher won every third race in a span of 14 years (1992-2006), and winning a championship every other year. Lewis broke countless records driving the same Mercedes Bottas did, and no one looked at Bottas and thought "that's a dominant car". Lewis made it look dominant, so does Max make the RedBull look untouchable. Let's start giving Max the praise he deserves. Great video, btw.

Max just a hardcore racer. This man was racing in a sim at 4 am on RACE DAY. This dude has an actual IRL F1 race on the same day and the madlad is playing on Sim racing at 4 am in the night! No other driver on the grid has this level of dedication and love for racing!

Also one of the things that makes the RedBull car dominat, is because they have one of the best, if not the best car designer in F1 history, and his name is Adrian Newey.
He won multiple Constructors Championships with Williams and McLaren and now with RedBull when Sebastian Vettel was there and now Verstappen

Awesome video, but small correction at 2:40:
Alfa Romeo appears in the video w/ a spelling mistake as "Alfa Romero" and the team referenced as "BWT Racing" is actually Alpine. BWT is their main sponsor.

Let's be clear. Adrian Newey is breaking F1.

It's very common for motor sports to ban Innovation because they work too well or make the car too fast (and dangerous).
I can't imagine them banning a driver because he's too good and too fast. Especially with red-bull/Max dominance threatening the entertainment aspect of the sport.

The other things about Max and why his pairing with Red Bull works so well are:
1. He practices racing all the time. With the sim and on track.
2. The RB car is prone to oversteering and he does really well when placed in a car with lots of oversteer.

Don't forget that Adrian Newey, the head designer at Red Bull Racing is a specialist when it comes to ground effect, the principle that is used by the floors to "suck" the cars down on the track. Newey graduated in it at university in 1980.

he also has a sim rig in his plane, the room he stays during the race week, in his house in monaco. the dude also has his own esports team. team redline racing. and last week he stayed until 4am racing .... the same day as qualifying in jeddah. and still got pole position.

originally a vettel fan, and not a fan of anyone in 2023... but the race that seals the deal of me is Monaco 2023. from pole to the race itself, i know from that point that im watching the something special. a legend in the making.
