He was an exceptional athlete, actor, singer, cultural scholar, author, and political activist. His talents made him a revered man of his time, yet his radical political beliefs all but erased him from popular history.

I’m a white boy from canada, I found a documentary about him when I was a teen. He’s one of my top influences, the man was as close to a modern divinci as you can get. Forget about black excellence, he dominated human excellence but he did bring to the forefront black excellence and showed that a man born from a freed slave could outperform all his white counterparts. The fact that his legacy has been covered up is a crime. His legacy is freedom for all oppressed peoples

I love to listen, and watch Paul Robeson on YouTube videos. He was a brilliant man who didn’t take any shit from anyone. I’ve turned a lot of young people on to him and his music. Now with the UAW strike going it’s time to listen to Joe Hill again. Thanks for talking about Paul Robeson!

I just learned about him today--he might be the brightest genius and all around Renaissance Man that the United States has ever produced! People like Einstein were like "we must hang out with this dude." Supposedly he spoke like 15 languages including Russian and Yiddish!

My grandad used to sing Paul Robeson songs and tell us all about him in 1990s Australia, his influence was vast and wide spread. But unfortunately, not vast and widespread enough

Lot's of love from India! Paul Robeson inspired several social struggles and protest singers in India. Ol' Man River is sung in several languages here. I come from a state called Assam, where the singer Bhupen Hazarika adapted it to the Assamese context, singing about the river Luit (also known as Brahmaputra), just like Robeson sang about the Mississippi.

They blacklisted Robeson because he was a communist and defended the Soviet Union. He actually went to the USSR as well as part of his singing tour and in a book about it he said the Soviet Union was the only place where he felt like he was treated "as a man with a capital 'M.'" For this, he will stay buried a long time.
