URGENT WARNING About Vascular Occlusion from Fillers!

Fillers have been a popular anti-aging strategy for many people over the last few years. While it sounds and seems like it would be harmless, there are a number of risks, one of them being Vascular Occlusion. Dr. Karam stresses that this can happen to absolutely anyone, and it is not a mark against whoever is doing the injection. What happens is that a small amount of filler will get into a blood vessel, which blocks the flow of blood. What ultimately happens if this goes untreated is that that tissue is being killed from the lack of blood flow. Some of the signs of Vascular Occlusion that you should be aware of include a disproportion of pain that often simply increases and blanching, discoloration or bruising of the injection area. While these signs often do not happen immediately after getting your injection, when notice them, you should contact your provider IMMEDIATELY! While this complication is uncommon, it is important for you to be aware of all the potential risks before undergoing any sort of procedure or injection.
