Tropical Storm Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to rapidly intensify into a hurricane, potentially a major hurricane, before making landfall mid-week along Florida's west coast.

The NHC warns there is life-threatening storm surge possible along Florida's Gulf Coast, as well as flooding, heavy rainfall, flooding, and damaging winds.

You have done so much to help me understand the dynamics of the storm. Better than anyone else on You Tube. Jim

I’m a meteorologist myself and something of a hurricane specialist. This is one of the best overviews I’ve seen. I’m not from Florida so I’m unfamiliar with this gentleman. But I’d recommend listening to him. Impressive.

Can we trade this storm in for a blizzard instead?

I live in Clearwater and toured the barrier islands today. I know people who have houses on the beach. The destruction I witnessed will take years to repair. If Milton hits this area with the power of Helene it is game over. Horrible!

I’m a 41 year resident of south Seminole County and a 61 year old Florida native. I was 14 months old when hurricane Dora and The Beatles decided to play at the same time in my hometown of Jacksonville FL on Sept 11 & 12, 1964!

They famously had to nail down Ringo’s drums to the stage so they wouldn’t blow away!! It was the only hurricane to hit the NE coast of FL in the 20th century!!

It took 40 years to really experience a hurricane that I would remember! Charley, Francis and Jeanne raked across central FL in 2004! Francis and Jeanne made landfall on Florida’s east coast, separated by only two miles and 3 weeks!!

There has never been so many blue tarps covering damaged roofs across central FL after being hit by three major hurricanes!🌀

Every storm is different and comes with different risks! If you’re near the coast or on a large lake, flooding is your biggest concern.

Being without power will be the biggest inconvenience for most of us. Don’t buy perishable foods until you know you have power afterwards!

Many of us went through hurricane Irma in 2018. This storm WILL pack a bigger punch because of its west to east trajectory! I’m really concerned about Tampa taking a direct hit by a cat 3 storm. That hasn’t happened since 1921!

I agree it will intensify to a Cat. 4. The gulf water temps are above normal. Former professional angler, been paying attention to water temperatures year round for most of my life.

Please stress for people to evacuate from all People that are new to Florida don't seem to understand the danger of being on a barrier Island!!!! If you have to cross a bridge to get to where you live, you live on an Island People!!!!
This sounds very much like Frances in 2004. That thing was huge and it covered the entire state.
Getting back to barrier islands or any island please make it clear that people must evacuate!!! There could be a huge storm surge Once they close the bridges for safety, you will be on your own. No Emergency Management will come to assist you and risk their lives because of the dangers. If ordered to Evacuate, Evacuate! Get ready NOW, Food water essentials You could be without power for a week, you may have flooding. Make a Plan for your home!!! please take hurricanes seriously! 6 gallons of water per person per day. Get portable toilet, five gallon buckets will work. They sell toilet seats that fit 5 gallon buckets. Oh my, here we go again!!! Pray, and remember hurricanes are the right conditions that might present tornadoes so stay tuned to your radios. That storm looks huge! Get chargers for your phones Some solar lights will hold a charge to charge a phone. Get flashlights, cat food, dog food cat litter. In an emergency, cat litter can be put in hefty bags and used for sandbags. Get sandbags if you live anywhere near the coast or areas that might flood. Battery operated fans with lots of batteries if you can find them. Secure all outside items. The wind could pick that stuff up if a hurricane happens!!! Get food and water for at least a week. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it Fill up 5 gallon buckets of water for flushing toilets. Get as many as you can if you have a larger family you'll need more. My bathtub won't hold water overnight, so that's why I use 5 gallon buckets. Get an alternative way to cook, get ice, get garbage bags like hefty that doesn't leak. clean everything before the storm hits. Get cleaning supplies, baby wipes in case you lose your water!
Florida resident all my life, I've gone through many storms. Cat 3 is pretty bad, Cat 4 you better plan to evacuate sooner rather than later!!!
Prepare, prepare, prepare people!
