Speaking of Theon, in A Clash of Kings, GRRM did a fantastic job at making him sound pathetically vain without it being over the top and unbelievable. You really were able to get into Theon's head and understand his thoughts and viewpoints without feeling like you're reading a caricature.

Blackwood is cool, but it's not just the cloak, it's his history. His house is arguably the coolest and has arguably produced the most epic character of all times (Brynden Rivers). He sided with the Starks, even after the lost and he delivers some really good dialoge

My favourite minor character is Dywen. He's the forester with the wooden teeth in the Night's Watch. Such a cool character.

He was the first one to notice that the woods were deathly silent before the others attacked. He also believed Sam's story about his encounter with one of the Others. We last see him ranging beyond the wall with Ser Alliser Thorne on Jon's command. Hopefully we see him again. Such a cool minor character.

Brynden 'Blackfish' Tully is a fantastic minor character

he answers the questions so very carefully, someone in the audience (or I) might think the person sounds boring or stupid, but he seems to always put a very well crafted answer together really quick and acknowleges the questioner while doing so

To be fair though Tytos Blackwood is a pretty cool character. He gives off a bit of an intimidating vibe, has some good dialogue and was the last riverlander openly supporting Robb’s cause.

Plus the Blackwoods in general are pretty badass. They’re like the only house south of the neck to refuse bending over to the Andals and have been surprisingly relevant throughout the history of Westeros.

Victarion Greyjoy and Strong Belwas were two of my favorite minor characters, and of course they were completely left out of the show.

i think people can really fall in love with vague minor characters is because you can imagine them however you want when there is so little to go off.

Hmmm. Theon I can see because he has, i think, the most compelling redemption arc. He goes from being quite blah to being vulnerable, sympathetic, and then becomes extremely brave. I came to like his character a lot (and was pretty pissed at how his life was just pointlessly thrown away in the series) The Hound I guess because he can be a protector? That's funny tho.

To shed some light on why women like the Hound: even though he may not be handsome, and very rough around the edges, there's this deep honesty about him, and a quiet desire to live his life without any need for great glory or honor. He's modest, but has this deep internal desire to see justice in the world, even though he claims to not care and has become very jaded over the years. And he may not be romantic, or outwardly kind, but he is gracious to the women he interacts with. He respects them. All of these aspects are very appealing in a man.

(And on a purely carnal level, he's tall as hell and really strong. That shit's hot, lol)
