Looks like Mr. Martin needs to start cosplaying, then.

Luckily nobody at comicon bats an eye at someone with a mediocre costume that entirely obscures their identity.

If he didn’t look like a Grand Archmage from a serious, gritty D&D campaign he probably wouldn’t be recognized as easily.

My boy is wealthy, he should just hire twenty lookalikes and saturate the floor with faux-martins.

A dozen comics for $1.50 really shows how bad inflation has gotten.

People are so weird about celebrities. Just let them be.

Funny, he’s more worried about finishing his own collection than finishing his book series he’s put on hold for 13 years

at the UK Discworld convention they had a very simple system to ensure Terry wasn't bothered when he didn't want to be. He was given two badges. One was Terry Pratchett and when he was wearing that you could ask him stuff and the other was Silas T. Firefly (always badge number 666) and if he was wearing that he wanted to be left alone (and people actually respected that).
Granted, the DWCon is a lot smaller than ComicCon (only about 800 people), but I still liked the system quite a lot.

Simple, call up Adam Savage to help him with a costume to sneak around in

I agree with everyone saying GRRM should just wear a costume (and I suspect he does), but that reminds me of my favorite "shouldn't someone recognize this guy" moment.

At San Diego Comic-Con one year, I passed a man in a blue astronaut jumpsuit who was wandering and looking lost. Like everyone else, I assumed he was a cosplayer ... until I looked at the mission patches on his sleeve, all of which were relatively uneventful Space Shuttle missions from the 1990s. The guy was the right age for it, so I figured he was really lost and stopped to help. As it turned out, he really WAS a retired astronaut who was appearing at the con to promote his space art, and he had no idea how to navigate the floor. I helped him find his booth, and he gave me some NASA stickers and asked me (with some amusement) why I had believed him so readily about being a real astronaut in a building full of cosplayers. I pointed at his mission patches and said, "Nobody would cosplay those missions. Not cool enough. If you're gonna be a fake astronaut, go Apollo or go home."

I have doubts that he was the very first person to buy a ticket there tbh

R.R. Martin sounds like a genuine nerd, and I mean that in the best way. I envy his passion for the world of fantasy and magic

He should dress up like Santa Claus and then people wouldn’t recognize him

Maybe he could give cosplay a try? It wouldn't be that out of place and he'd get to roam in a cool getup

The wise entertainers realize that they are living the good life because of their fans. Little Jimmy Dickens, the host for The Grand Olde Opery, and Peter Mayhew actually thanked their fans for this very reason. Stopping for a minute to let someone take a picture with you should always be done as long as the fans are nice.

Petition for people that recognize this man to just pretend like they don't. The greatest way you can honor him is by giving him his wishes
