Hell of a day, huh? Look at them, wild!"
"Have you ever been liberated?
"I've been divorced twice, does that count?"
"Yes, that counts."

"I took ten thousand men into Arnhem, I've come out with less than two. I don't feel much like sleeping . . ."

For a movie of this scale made back in the 70's, it's one of the very best. Just loved the Firefly Shermans and the Pak40 ATGs. Great cast, great show.

I was there in Deventer in 1977 when many scenes were recorded there. The set was closed during the week, but on weekends you could walk around. Beautiful recreated houses.

This makes me so proud to be British. My Grandfather fought in the Special Forces in WWII. He won the Military Cross and Bar (means he won the cross twice). He was mentioned in Dispatches three times. He was a remarkable gentleman. Major George Duncan, you can read about him in almost any book about the history of the SBS. He was originally in the LRPG with Stirling and Paddy Maine, knew them both well and counted them as friends. He can be seen in a documentary about Special Forces, there’s a small bit about SAS and SBS on Sicily and he can be seen celebrating with other operators.

I like how the mood shifted towards the end of the video. The first part was triumphant and showed the battle while the latter half showed the human cost for the Allied, Axis, and civilians.

At the time of this film's release, the music was often claimed by many critics to be inappropriate. I think they may have missed the point. William Goldman (the screen writer) said that he broke the book down on the structure of the James Fox's speech about the cavalry arriving to save the day. At least to me, John Addison's music sounds like this idea. It's a rousing, hopeful theme about what is meant to happen. It feels like the spirit in which the soldiers had to face this situation and the same music becomes tragic when the reality of the events play out. So I don't think it's inappropriate. Either at the start of the operation or the failure at the end, the music seems emotionally correct.

Saw at the cinema in November 1977. Still holds it own against any war film made ever since. A stellar cast and I cannot think of any other film which has had better since "The Longest Day" in the early '60's. Very realistic battle scenes without the help of CGI and a pretty close depiction of the the true story.

I was all of 14 when I saw this in a theater for the first time....Star Wars came out this year as Wars blew you away with the special effects work...A Bridge Too Far....Blew you away with the scale of the production....It really gave you a feel for just how massive the whole undertaking of this war was...All those DC-3's and paratroopers....It remains to this day one of my all time favorite movies period...and what a great musical score.

By far the best WW2 movie in my opinion, the effort put in o make it as accurate as possible is just incredible, some of Holywood's hotshots being in it and it holds a sentimental value to me because me and my Grandad watched it, it was my first WW2 film, one to cherish and remember forever

A Richard Attenborough masterpiece. One of the greatest War Films ever made. Amazing battle scenes and some of the greatest actors come together to honour the heroes of Arnhem. I saw at the cinema when I was 9 years old and will never forget it. They will never make a film as good as this again.

Chills. My Dad was stationed in England for a year, preparing for D-Day. He said aircraft flew wingtip to wingtip. as far as you could see, and the ground rumbled.
