In 1979, as a 19 yr old American soldier I was with a team of fellow soldiers who took part in the annual Four Days at Nijmegen. At pre-camp we saw this film. At Nijemegen, we went across the bridge over the Waal River. Looked down river to where the 82nd made the assault. The river there is wide and the current strong. That experience brought that film to vivid life.

John Addison participated in Market-Garden as a member of XXX Corps. One of the greatest war movies ever. "Centennial" music is lights-out as well. "Theirs Is the Glory" 1946 is worth checking out. Flick features many actual combatants such as Johnny Frost.

One of my favorite films. I remember going to see it when it premiered.
Has anyone noticed anything strange about Ryan O'Neil's helmet? It doesn't seem like it was made from steel. Nor does it have a liner. It honestly looks like plastic. All the other cast members are wearing proper steel lids except for O'Neil. I wonder if he complained about the M1 being "too heavy" and asked for a lightweight plastic model.
