Worrying ‘wake-up call’ as cost of living crisis worsens

As the cost of living crisis and inflation continue to bite, many workers in Australia are asking themselves, "How do I get a new job?"

With a struggling economy, rising unemployment and a competitive job market, it feels like your boss has all the power.

The main factors affecting how Aussies feel about work include the cost of everyday items, lack of recognition and poor work-life balance. How do you keep with the cost of living? How do you negotiate a higher salary when the market is so competitive anyway?

The new Right To Disconnect laws are one bright spot, while new research shows Gen Z workers are looking to prioritise perks over pay.

But experts say Aussie employers need to prioritise transparency, better management and open communication if they’re to survive in the longer term.

RIP Australia. We voted in our own death.
My workplace laid off most of my team last year and more this year to come. All while there migrants coming though an Labors immigration pipeline by May 2025.

Elephant in the room, see how many applications every job gets (outside trades) from someone saying they've just arrived or are willing to migrate, and if you think that's going to change check how everything from hospitality to tech wages have been decimated in Canada as a result of cheaper labour options.

A pragmatic solution would be for individuals between the ages of 18 and 45 to seek opportunities abroad, where prospects remain robust in contrast to the diminishing potential at home. The deliberate departure of this young, dynamic workforce—the very foundation of the nation's future—would precipitate a crisis among those entrenched in positions of wealth and power. Faced with the sudden absence of the labor and support systems they rely on, the elite would quickly realize that their continued prosperity is untenable without the very generation they've neglected.

HaHa, Wake up, China and Asia outperform overpriced Australian workers. There is nothing they can't do cheaper and as good. Living standards are going to keep falling. And if they ever allow easy retirement visas for Australian seniors, it's all over. Why pay outrageous prices in Australia when you can pay 1/2 or less for the same products and services.

Uuhh good luck with that in 5 to 10 years humanoid robots will outnumber humans and AI will mentally outperform us too. These are the good old days it gets worse from here on.

The pLandemic is clearly not "behind us". The economy isn't going to genuinely improve anytime soon. To have any sense of real power (as an employee) you need to be debt free or carry an extremely low debt-income ratio (along with a strong spiritual foundation based on truth). Government intervention (via laws/policy) will always (at best) slow down the sinking of the ship.

Nah, ‘working from home’ is an oxymoron. Domestic responsibilities are blended with work commitment’s and people forget which way is up.

Imo, I think it's a good thing that employers should shift their focus on valuing their staff and a create culture where they really do feel valued. Instead of this hiring & mentality and elitism.

Its a myth that people were more productive working from home but they were certainly happier.

Of course employees could all resign and start their own businesses. They could tell their customers that they want a work/life balance and not to call them outside of designated hours. See how that works out for them 😂
