I’m a hairdresser and I have several clients on these meds. I’ll be sure to look out for this and try to educate them without freaking them out!

Thank you SO much for not bashing or shaming people who use medications like Ozempic! You clearly have so much empathy for your clients and viewers! 🙌🏻

Thank you for this!!! Knowing that things will eventually level out makes me feel so much better. I find it interesting that all the drs I’ve spoken to claim that the medication doesn’t cause the hair loss but when you do your own research you find that that’s not completely accurate so thank you for being honest.

This is something I wish more people would think about before they go on GLP1 agonists. They are not without side effects and risks. Gastro intestinal issues, hair loss, loss of skin collagen, the list goes on. That may be worth it to you, but it does bear considering.

- take a multivitamin every day (preferably one with ACTIVE forms of all the B vitamins)
- do blood tests to check (at a bare minimum) your Ferritin, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D … but if you can you might also want to check magnesium, zinc, iodine, selenium, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin K
- keep a food diary and track of how many grams of protein you are consuming each day and on average over the course of a full week
- make an appointment with a REGISTERED DIETITIAN to go over your food diary and get a personalized recommendation for how much protein you need for your body and how to make it easier to reach that amount consistently, and to see if your diet is falling short on any other nutrients
- do not just see a “nutritionist” - almost anyone can call themselves a nutritionist; the education and training requirements to be called a registered dietitian are stricter

I've lost a significant amount of weight recently (not due to a drug) and am definitely shedding. Good to know about this!

Any time your body goes through a major stressor/change it causes hair loss. I got it bad with COVID, but pregnancy/childbirth, weight loss, other sicknesses, etc - it can all cause hair thinning and hair loss. The good news is, it's usually not permanent. But it is annoying to have to deal with for the time being.

Thank GOD! Ugh this is SO helpful. I’ve been losing so much hair (and weight) since being on Wegovy and I am so glad to know that it’ll eventually come back!

Ozempic has had zero effect on me losing weight, but it has on me losing hair! Didn't even make the connection until I saw your video, but there's definitely one. I stopped it for a while, my hair didn't fall as much, I took it up again, boom - a handful of hair in my shower 😢 The difference is noticeable, for sure.

Insulin resistance can also causes hair loss along with menopause & hypothyroidism. There's surely massive amounts of overlap of in age & gender of people taking these weight loss meds.

Dr. Ellis, can you share your hair coloring process, please? We have the same root color, and I'm having a hard time toning down the strong highlights and finding a more mild blonde, and I love your colors and how your highlights are done.

I don’t understand Dr. Sam. I have lost 25 lbs by cutting out most all bread and sodas, although neither were all day habits. I splurge occasionally, but water is my go to. I find that moderation, moderation, moderation is the answer. I do have hair loss, but just cooking for one, prob. doesn’t help my health. Thank for the video. Just found you yesterday. Watched several already ! ☺️😊☺️

I've had bariatric surgery. I've been warned about impending hair loss. However, the advice I've been given by my Dr is to keep my Protein intake high. I can't eat the right amount of protein so I have to have both a protein shake as well as whey protein every day. My nutritionist worked out the correct amount of protein according to my weight. This may be helpful for your patients.

I used to have an ED and every shower I would cry cause so much hair was coming out. Luckily I have super thick hair so it wasn’t noticeable but it’s still really scary

PREACH- STYLIST HERE! I tell them your body doesn't care about hair/ skin/ nails when the calorie intake isn't the same. Your body will use those calories for the necessary systems- thank the Lawd for wigs/toppers lol
PS- weight loss drugs AND menopause makes it 1 million % worse! Thank you so much for sharing❤

A family member got a gastric sleeve and rapidly lost an incredible amount of weight… but she also lost a lot of her hair!!! I recently also lost a lot of weight rapidly myself and began shedding more from my crown and temples. I didn’t make the connection until now, I had thought that my issue was over wearing tight hairstyles, but the weight loss is also probably a contributing factor too.

Anyone who rapidly loses weight for any reason is at risk for weight loss, and it is usually delayed (usually around 3 months later). My mom experienced this after a severe illness and prolonged hospitalization. Her hair came back though.

My brother is a pharmacist. He just tells everybody he works at Acme.

I've never taken any of these drugs but having lost significant amounts of weight in the past I can say that being in a sustained calorie deficit led to major shedding.
