A lot of dermatologists are clueless about hair loss

My dermatologist whom I’ve seen for years completely dismissed my concerns about hair loss. They don’t always know what’s up, either that or they don’t care to work with you & help you find a solution.

Well dermatologists will also get you into the office and push you toward their own brands they make or partner with. Same difference.

Mine started falling out after COVID, cut caffeine to reduce cortisol, have been eating better and taking a multi vitamin supplement, changed my shampoo to a strengthening one and tried to stop freaking out (also cut my hair short so all the new hair won’t have as much growing to do to catch up)… 6mths later and it is growing back.. it’s less thick than it was … but at least it stopped falling out in clumps…

I don’t know how it is in the US. But in the UK derms are not so easily accessible. Your GP will never refer you to a derm for a bit of hairloss. And private derms just try to sell you their own products for extortionate prices. So we have no choice but to experiment with products

My husband saw a dermatologist about his hair thinning on top.
They just said it’s hereditary.
He tried menoxidal (sp?) but he found it too annoying and costly to use, so after 6 months with no results, he quit.
Now, his hair has thickened up about a year later.
He did some lifestyle and product changes, so, now he doesn’t know what is working it’s magic, so he’s stuck doing all of them. Lol.
Here’s the things he did.

Lost weight to get his BMI in a healthy range, slowly. Which brought his blood pressure to normal with no medications.
Starting using Paul Mitchell shampoo for thinning hair.
Stopped washing his hair daily.
Started taking a collagen supplement in his coffee everyday.
Started taking a hair/skin & nails vitamin supplement daily.
And, last but not least, cut back considerably on sugar.

After losing half my hair, my “board certified dermatologist” said “Don’t know what’s causing your hair loss. You won’t go bald but here is a referral to my friend that does hair transplants.” I no longer have enough hair to even transplant. I think I need a second opinion.

I was able to grow my hair back with liittleextra reactivate hair growth serum. Taken a three-month apart. First one in Jan, second in March. You must apply the serum directly to the scalp and massage into skin with very little pressure. Do not pull on your hair. The hair coming in seems to be good quality. I have less hair fall overall. I use at night, the serum doesn't make your hair sticky, but you only need a few drops to work - less is more. Additionally, switched pillows cases to satin so that sleep is easier on my hair.

There's minoxidil tablets now for hair loss. I'm hopefully getting them. My hair loss has caused me to have breakdowns throughout my life and I never had children for fear of passing this cruel condition on to a girl.

I'm so glad the dermatologist that I visited 3 years ago was able to help me. It was a long journey. Lots of blood tests. Turned out it was caused by my hormones. Beside all the medicine he gave me, healthy foods and regular exercise really helped me strengthen my hair. I even got my period back!

My hair loss is an unfortunate side effect of my lupus meds. I've held off cutting it shorter but I'm probably getting to that point. It is what it is. My hair was always my favourite thing about myself. Currently taking vitamins for hair growth.

I saw two board certified dermatologist on two separate occasions when it came to hair loss and they were no help. I started doing ayurvedic hair oiling on my hair and daily scalp massage every day- 5 minutes every day, morning and night. My hair is a lot better and some of it is growing back.

I have given up on my hair. Jeeez !!! I don’t know man I have been experiencing hair loss time to time, alopécia as well. I have spent so much on my hair and dermatologists who recommended me different stuff time to time. I have got my hair and skin checked from paris, dubai and London. Places they say, they have good doctors. now I’m in Sydney I would like to go to a dermatologist here but just don’t wanna start over again. May be Im depressed and completely down. I just don’t want. I barely care for my hair now. Doesn’t even apply oil. I have a baby and my hands are so full with household. I also work and sometime I wish to have good hair days. Deep down I have accepted this hair fall shit is not something I can stop. Fuggg it. tooo tired now !!!

Minoxidil works only if you continue to use it, once you stop using it you lose hair again.

Thanks - i’m dealing with pain on my scalp, and the exact spot where it hurts at a given time is where I experience thinning or hairloss. I’m very scared, but I have an appointment with a derm next month. I hope everything will heal and regrow.

It has taken such a toll on my mental health

A lot of dermatologist just don’t care enough. Unfortunately, that was my experience- the doctor looked at my scalp and asked about my life and literally took out syringes. She didn’t do any lab test and didn’t inform me much about my condition. Looking back I should’ve asked her how she was able to weigh out other conditions in addition to alopecia areata. It really sad that people trust these products more than doctors

After going to a Derm for one year and having serious side effects to minoxidil and spironolactone that is not a long term viable option. Doing my own research and with the help of PRP and some herbal stuff hair is better than ever.
