Rotator cuff injuries? Shoulder pain? Shoulder clicking? Check this one out! Being able to do some self-massage and release is very useful when navigating pain and injuries. A rig and a barbell work great for this but you can easily do it in other ways also! The back of a chair or barstool is another option, as is a kettlebell on a countertop. You can also try it with a ball on the ground!
The Infraspintaus and teres minor are rotator cuff muscles. They are separate muscles with different names but they work together to externally rotate the shoulder. Here’s a cool little test for you. Relax and shake out your shoulders and arms. Stand facing forward with your hands at your side. Are your palms facing your thighs or are they facing behind you? For most, they will be facing more behind you because your upper body is likely rounded forward. We see this straighten out with strengthening!
The cool thing is we rarely see injuries to these muscles. We see strains and pain and a lot of weakness but not really tears or bigger injuries. Some awareness, along with massage and strengthening typically lends really great results here! Just doing the massage will feel good but the issues will likely come right back if that is all you do! We’ve done videos on strengthening this also- you can easily search for them on our youtube channel!
