Homegrown CHICKPEAS for HUMMUS

I grew a handful of chickpeas (garbanzo beans) for the first time and just had my first harvest. I’m hooked. ⁣⁣I snacked on them in the garden, and now I’m saving the rest of the harvested chickpeas to plant next season.⁣⁣ In the low desert, plant garbanzo beans from October - January. Have you grown chickpeas before? ⁣⁣

Do you have to pull the whole plant out of the ground to be able to harvest it? This is the first time I’m trying to grow chickpeas and I don’t know how to harvest them and how long the chickpea plant lives
