Vestibular Rehabilitation, Giddiness Exercises

Exercises for the management of dizziness, giddiness and vertigo (vestibular rehabilitation).
There are 6 groups of exercises in this programme: Eyes, Head, Sitting, Standing, Lying down, and Walking.
Eyes Exercise
1) Keeping your head still, look up and down, look side to side.
2) Hold a finger out at arm’s length. Focus on your finger and bring it forward to your nose, then back again.
Head Exercise
3) Move your head up and down (eyes open), side to side (eyes open).
4) Repeat with eyes closed.
5) Hold an object in front. Turn head 45o to left and right, while keeping eyes focussed on the object.
Sitting Exercise
6) Sit on edge of bed. Flip body to left. Return to sitting position. Flip body to right.
7) Place an object on the floor in front of you. Reach down to pick it up. Then return to upright position.
8) Bend forwards to pick up object from floor. Turn to left to place object behind you. Turn to the right to pick up object.
Standing Exercise
9) Get up from sitting position. Turn 360o to left and sit down. Repeat with right side.
10) From standing, bend forwards to touch floor, and return to standing.
11) While standing, practice making sudden 90o turns, with eyes open, then closed.
12) Practice standing on one foot, with eyes open, then closed. Start hopping on left foot, then right.
13) March in place with eyes opened and closed. March in place with head turning to left and right.
Lying down exercises
14) Roll head from side to side.
15) Roll whole body from side to side.
Walking exercises
16) While walking, look side to side.
17) Walk heel-to-toe, with eyes opened and closed, forwards and backwards.
18) Side stepping walk.
Do these exercises 2 to 3 times a day. Do it for 3 weeks.
