More Americans leaving the US amid cost of living, rising political divisiveness

Politics and cost of living are pushing Americans on both sides of the aisle to pack their bags. International Living reported a 1000% increase in web traffic after Roe Versus Wade was overturned. Meanwhile, the 2016 election of Donald Trump, George Floyd Protests and the COVID-19 Pandemic all significantly drove up clicks for “Where Can I Live?” a consulting business for people who need help with the logistics of moving to another country.

The crazy thing is, when I visited Norway last year I felt like my body, mind and soul were at utter peace and never felt lethargic, but as soon as I landed back in the US I started to feel out of place and I was in an incredibly bad mood. I took that as a sign that maybe it’s time to move abroad 🙏🏻

I'm trying very hard to leave. I'll still visit my mom and my pets but to live here every day in this workaholic, self-absorbed, materialistic, isolated country is something I can't do anymore. I'm depressed, I'm anxious, I'm endlessly stressed, and I can't take it anymore.

. I knew something was wrong when I earned a STEM college degree on scholarship (the only way an everyman can afford an education in this forsaken country, ) no student debt, and was working over 100hrs per week and a good-paying job, yet couldn't afford a mortgage/rent payment and still had to live with my parents despite saving every dime I had and not spending on anything luxurious or frivolous.

My generation literally cannot afford to exist. I'm sure older generations will scoff and say "you deserved it, " and looking at the idiocy of some of us they're probably right, but at the same time we're gonna have to go somewhere and do something. this can't go on.

I left America on January 19th, 2020, and never looked back. Living in NYC was completely soul-draining. Happily somewhere else.

I am definitely considering leaving this place. I'm over it...just evil and greed in the US.

I have wanted to leave this place since I was 4 years old. If I had the money, I would leave in half a heartbeat.

I left the USA. Being a Latino and a Marine Veteran, I got no opportunities in SC, GA, and NC area. I was discriminated against many times when trying to buy a home, and the immigration process to bring my wife from Taiwan was too expensive and time-consuming. On top of that rent and the price of living for a Veteran with VA compensation is too high. We had no money left over. A stomach virus cost us $10, 000. We realized we would die early if we stayed in the USA. To make things worse, we lived in a very racist area where Dixie flags flew on almost every house, and none of our neighbors were friendly.

So we decided to move to Taiwan. We now live very well and comfortably. I don't miss the USA one bit.

I left America 36 years ago and have never looked back. What is happening now is frightening and breaks my heart.

Cost of living in America is unbearable

I'm planning to leave too. I'm sick of the hate, killings, and extremely high cost of housing. My employer hasn't made working from home permanent yet, but I am applying to other companies as a backup. I have to make sure I also have access to my medication. Once that's done I am going to Belize. My mom has 10 acres of land and 1 is for me.

The new American dream is leaving America

What the hell happened to America? Mass shootings, racial hatred, political chaos, declining schools, rising crime, skyrocketing health costs, crazy inflation. This was 35-40 years ago hands down the world's best country. Greed, disunity and politicians have destroyed the American dream.

I moved 9 years ago to Costa Rica.🏖 And, became a permanent resident. I return to the U.S. once a year, to visit family and friends. Each time I return to the U.S., it's a worse experience!

Americans living abroad need to *respect* those other countries and not ruin them with all of the awful traits and behaviors that are disastrously ruining this country, oh lord… Very hard to see that happening, sadly…

I love what she said about people waking up from the American dream, it's not that great as they think and outside is not as bad as many thought

I am taking my 22 year old daughter and her babies to the Philippines because the American Dream is a nightmare now. We are out of here for a whole new life. Good luck to everyone who is in our boat!!
