I just can say you are 100% right. I'm German and my husband is American. I lived in the US for 25 years. We had a very good life, big house, nice car, good healt insurance, but as you said all that worth nothing because you have to worry about all the crime it's going on around you. Shooting, killing, robbing, stealing, etc. Even you have a security alarm and cameras all around the house you are not safe in your own house.
So we decided to move to Portugal. Now we live here since June 2023, and all i can say, it was the right decision. We feel safe over here and our whole attitude changes completely. We became more relaxed, and enjoy life to the fullest. We don't have to worry about all the crime that we had before. Over here people are friendly and helpful, and almost no crime. People over here are mature enough to know what and what not to do. I'm telling you it's a totally different life over here, plus cost and living is inexpensive, and you don't hear people talk about politic all day long.
No, we don't regret that we left the US.

Preach Amon! My husband and I have been saving all our lives, both to educate our sons and for retirement. We should have retired 5 years ago but we continue to work out of sheer fear for all of the reasons you named. None of our sons, well into their thirties, owns a home. Wisely, our youngest left the country right after college and has been able to live comfortably and safely on an income that would have been impossible here.

An American here still living in America, and it's depressing. Watching housing become so out of control here, while the government does nothing. Seeing kids talk about "why bother" going to college when all it's going to guarantee is massive debt they are going to have to pay off. Seeing the healthcare here get worse and worse every day. I pay hundreds a month for private insurance I get through my job and now half my doctors are refusing to accept my insurance because the insurance companies are making all kinds of excuses to not pay. I had Covid in May and had to be hospitalized for 5 days and I'm still paying off the bills and that's with an expensive insurance I pay over $400 a month for. It's ridiculous! The violence here, the insanity where you can't talk to someone without hearing them say some incredibly hateful or ignorant thing (granted I live in Florida, not saying the whole country is like that).

Great video! I left the USA and returned home to Jamaica 2 years ago. One of the best decisions I have ever made. Why are you still calling it the "American Dream" if it can't be achieved in the USA? We need a new name for this. I agree with you. Peace of mind is essential! 💯

I think your video reveals what most of us have said for years. America’s biggest export is HYPE! For example, How can the “riches country in the world” not afford Universal Healthcare. Healthcare is the number one reason why people have a job and stay at that job regardless of the stress it puts on them. Which we forget that stress is the leading cause of health related issues! Just my opinion. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Well, I don’t know what to say. I came here as a little kid with my parents from Russia after the soviet union collapse. I think we achieved our American dream and we are very proud of America! America is not perfect, but is still the magnet for immigrants all over the world. We will never leave.

I'm living the American dream. Started with zero at 25, now worth $2.8M at 38 with a basic accounting job. Work hard at a job that pays decent, get married and stay married. Don't do drugs or gamble and you can still live very well in the US. America doesn't have much safety net but it is still very possible to "make it"

I agree w mostly everything Amon says, however, let’s not forget where he made most of his money - In the U.S., then he left and made more money. Also, most of his money: Roth, 401K, HSA, Brokerage acct. still held in U.S accounts. The U.S. stock overall still out performs European, Asians, + emerging markets. His 1st talking point, about hard work is half and half, but u can’t work hard only, u have to work smart. Ppl are not leveraging their jobs benefit properly when they have them, like he did. 1/3 of Americans have no retirement or savings, many still don’t do 401k match, or HSA. I believe 68% of US GDP, comprise of personal consumption. 51% of Americans making $100K yrly living paycheck to paycheck. Let’s not 4get other factors that influences ppl: social media flexing, conspicuous consumption, eating out, and buying newer cars can’t afford. The American dream is hard, but still possible, I believe it, because w/o a possible mindset, nothing is possible.

I had to leave Europe for america just to make a decent wage. I was also taxed over 30 percent on a meager salary and had to pay exhorbitant city taxes. While I agree with you on the peace aspect, I think actually very difficult to make it in europe. Probably better to make money in the US then retire in europe like you did!

The only thing keeping me here is my son is in a great school for elementary education. However, I plan on leaving as soon as he finishes 5th grade. I am laying the groundwork for us to be able to afford to leave and hopefully never look back. I have people in my family who are trying to discourage me but I am tired of the never-ending violence and anxiety in the country. I just want to have peace.

Amen, Ammon! My husband and I retired at 61 and 50 with a half million dollars, and continued to enjoy multiple vacations and donate thousands of dollars annually. He died only a few years later, and after that I spent 14 years taking care of several close family members - none of whom saved enough for their retirement. I developed chronic autoimmune conditions requiring tens of thousands of dollars of out of pocket expenses for medical and in-home care each year. My long term care health insurance company went into receivership. Now, at 75, I am the only remaining family member alive, and I'm looking at the end of my savings if I don't make a radical change soon. I believe I am too old to qualify for a loan to purchase a home or qualify for health insurance in Portugal, my first choice for where to relocate.
