You can jump over the well on illios. I haven't played Mauga in a while but do remember doing it when charged and jumped on the edge of the well. It can be a nice suprise attack.

Plus when only catching half the team with the ult it can shield out enemy healing and support cooldowns making it more likely to get kills. If you catch the tank and dps they will typically focus the tank instead of trying to break the shield.

Before his unlimited ammo nerf for his ult i would use his ult as a shield aswell for defensive plays.

fun fact, mei actually has a very small hitbox, with one of the smallest head hitboxes, id say a better example would be reaper zen lifeweaver or symm

That first point is like a double edge sword type of thing, cause yes, you want to use it with your team, but also, if you dont use it early on in a fight, and your heal drops below half, that can just cause you to lost your lofe within seconds even with any damage mitigation that ability has, i people need to use preemptively but also not 5 minutes before you go into a team fight, maybe like once you burn the enemy tank, which happens quickly

Also using his ult defensively instead offensively is extremely effective. I tend to use his ut to blck other ults or save me if im low health as it will block all incoming damage. Do whatever u can to keep urself in the fight.

I love using his ulti to trap mobility based characters. Probably my favourite match up is against Doomfist. Any time he tries to block, just charge and step on him to make him drop it. Trapping him after he jumps into your team by himself is also very satisfying, since he can't do anything except block, which again, you can force down with your charge.

Another thing to note is lifeweaver can pull you out and since the ult is an instant reload rather than infinite ammo being outside is better since you get the shield
