It doesn't even felt like 30 minutes when you're trying it out. This was extremely informative and fun to learn. I was wondering whether you are going to make a part 2 or not

Always remember, a sword is not a toy and requires complete focus and attention!

Glad you asked your sensei before you taught these basic techniques. Shows that you have respect for him and you take your swordsmanship very seriously.

I have a nice condition WW2 type 98 sword that was handed down to me, a recent shoulder injury had the doctors wanting me to do exercises similar to your teachings here, I have combined my sword with your teachings and what the doctors want me to do and things are starting to heal up now, best wishes from England.

Your Sensei must be confident in your skills.
This both shines on your skilllevel aswell his teachings.

Pull and push upon drawing the sword and push and pull when cutting. When you get it right, it is fluid motion. My sensei was brutal, but he left me with very important lessons. I owe him a debt of gratitude.

I myself do Iaido and almost at 1st Dan the fact that you are teaching online is amazing you've already beat my goal of teaching thousands in real life once I get a dojo

I always thought the drawing/sheathing part of a Katana looked so cool and graceful. Especially the sheathing part. Thank you for sharing this, Shogo-san.

Thank you for the great tutorial. I have a "katana" hand forged but made in China(so not a real katana). It is very sharp so I get a little nervous with it. I may need to get a laido specific sword for practice It was great to watch your instruction with Kazu and Tomoko(Great job!). I hope to start training at our dojo in the near future. Love the videos!

I've always been able to draw my sword pretty smoothly but I always had trouble with sheathing it until I saw one of your older videos that talked about the process. once I learned about the proper hand placement it instantly became so much easier to the point where I could sheath it without looking after just a few tries though it's not completely smooth yet, still need to practice.

On uchi-chiburi, the reason why the blade seems like it may cut Kazu's hand is because his left leg/hip needed to move back. Like Shogo demonstrated, drawing and sheathing require complimentary movements with both hands and hips. Many mistakes can be corrected by slowing down and focusing on the fundamentals.

This is incredibly helpful! I had trained in Kendo for a year in a dojo, however my sensei was...also new to using a sword, and I've largely been training myself ever since, with Bokken's.
I recently bought a proper, real katana to train with, and I felt there were a few missing things with my form, things that other sources online have entirely breezed past, which you covered!
I feel far more confident in training with more proper form now!

It's so cool! I'm from Russia, and I'm practicing with a katana, your lessons are a positive charge and smiles, thank you sensei!

I’m training right now with a wooden katana because I’m too young for a real one. I really liked how to put on the Hakama, it helped a lot! My favorite attacking choice is the sideways.

I'm from Philippines and I studied in Japan when I was around 8-10 years old. And I have always been fascinated about Japanese weapons, particularly the Katana. So I am currently watching this now because I managed to forge my own using Spring steel. I know it's not Tamahagane steel but I will buy a real Katana soon. Thank you for the basics Shogo-san ❤️

I just got a katana. I’m very excited about learning how to use it it properly. I’ve learned so much stuff in the first 10 minutes already. You are a great teacher thank you

どうもありがとうございます 🤩 Thank you for making Iaido more accessible! I'm happy that your sensei is ok with you showing some skills online. You make an excellent sensei, you explain everything clearly and you make it fun! I'm one of the many saying to you that I don't have an iaido dojo to go to so your videos are a blessing! 🙏🏼‍ 🙏🏼‍ 🙏🏼‍
